The sales tag for this sofa day bed said it was Knoll. It was really cool -- as you can see the sides kind of button down to create a lounge effect. It was marked $500. I did not buy it. No place for it!

This has been working. Except on Thursday, my neighbor Allison sent me an email about a fantabulous estate sale at a true Stockbridge mansion — “the estate sale event of the season” — and gosh, how could I miss that?

I’ve been there twice, and I may go back again today. I did not buy the tall Chinese porcelain polychrome figurines in the first photo, but if they are still there on Sunday and are half price, I may have no choice — I’ve never seen any this tall before, and I have quite a nice collection of Chinese figurines coming together on my dining room built-in.

I kind of wanted to buy these vintage clothes storage boxes. But I was finally hit with estate sale fatigue.

What did I buy? Vintage tiki torches — new old stock, made in Wisconsin… Two bargello needlepoint pillows…. A lovely, larged framed black-and-white photo of the Mrs. of the house…a silk kimono, crocheted poncho and black go-go boots (!) … lots of little ephemera from the hardware table to use for collages… and on day #2, a whole bunch of clear plastic shoe boxes to organize all my estate sale ephemera bits and bobbles.

I was intrigued by the collaged room divider. Did not buy it - I was trying to limit to nothing "bigger than a breadbox"

On top of that, the house was spectacular — I took a lot of photos and in particular, can’t wait to show you the most excellent 1980s kitchen cabinets — yes, 1980s! It was a good sale, to be sure!

A covered porch behind the garage overlooking a backyard pool!

I liked the light by the pool, too. Groovy, baby.

Even though the house was a 1930′s-era duplex (I’m guessing….), the interior had been redone in the 1970s.

I fooled around with the image above, on my photo program. Gave it a little more black light glo.

I bought this light — I haven’t taken the top off yet to check the maker, but I’m guessing Virden or Moe. Don’t know what the DH will say. Perhaps I will serve him a Tequila Sunrise before I lay the 1970s Case de Torquemado swag light on him.

Suzy aka Georgia Peachez

Last year I proclaimed my love and admiration for Georgia Peachez’ crafty Christmas wreaths made out of vintage tinsel-garland and ornaments. What a fantastic way to use ornaments hunted and scrounged at estate sales all year long — something to hunt for an actually use! Suzy, the genius Peach, is at it again this year — that’s her “That 70s Wreath,” above. Morevoer — we asked for her how-to instructions — and she graciously responded right away! Read on to learn how to make a Christmas wreath out of vintage ornaments of your very own. –>.

Suzy writes:

• Start with extruded foam wreath base and wrap in tinsel-tone garland securing with hot glue.
• Important to add a wire loop here before preceding.
• Glue larger ornaments around the outer rim of wreath form.
• Lay flat and then fill in with smaller ornies.
• I like to mix up ornies with kitschy little things.
• Important to use HIGH TEMP hot glue.

That’s it in a nutshell!

Ooooh! “Kitschy little things.” I have plenty of those. Do spatulas get you in the holiday mood? I ask: Are the ornies attached to anything? or do you just glue them straight on … that is, no hooks? She responds:

• Just glue them right on. The tinsel gives a good surface to bond to.

One of the things that I think is particularly clever about Suzy’s method, is that by starting with the wrapped tinsel — the back side of the wreath is actually very pretty, too. Here is a photo from a wreath available in her etsy shop that shows what I mean:
