I'm just starting the "dreaming" stage of a kitchen remodel and have found the site very helpful. I have a pretty large set of St. Charles cabinets that, style-wise, seem to match the pale blue ones in the images from the 1957 catalogue, but mine were repainted white when they were originally installed in a kitchen addition in the early 60s. The insides of some are still robin's egg blue!--and then, here's a bummer, several were repainted again with semi-gloss paint which looks terrible because of all the stains over the years. Luckily, I found a guy in CT who will refinish them properly. The counters are white laminate and in bad condition--stains and gouges--and will need to be replaced. When I redo the kitchen, I'd like to add a small island--though big enough for a sink. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for materials/finishes that would work well with the sea of white metal. (The kitchen is 13.5'x12' and St. Charles on three sides.)
