I have some additional, very early material from this company that indicates they originally and initially sold steel countertops. This brochure - which I gauge is from the 1930s - shows their line of steel kitchen cabinets that followed. In the 30s, you started to see these cabinets show up in modern homes and "homes of the future." Of course, during the 30s, most of the company was suffering through the Depression - so much of the advertising was about a better time to come....while much of actual new design was going to high end homes. Elgin, out of Chicago, seems to be the other company active in steel cabinets during the time, as was Modern, also Chicago-based, which was the precursor to Geneva. Monel was based in NYC, with offices on Park Avenue. In this brochure, they indicate dealers as far west as Cleveland.
To be sure, these cabinets have a very deco feel. Note the plastic handles with "Monel inserts".
This is a very interesting and important company in the history of steel cabinets. Please be sure to contribute - and post photos - if you have one of these kitchens!
