Retro lighting

Here are some basic recommendations for lighting with a mid century feel. Important: We all care very much about managing environmental and safety issues properly, so when undertaking your restoration project, be sure to familiarize yourself with and use recommended best practices. For example, the EPA hosts a website on lead in the home and a website on asbestos in the home. Consult professionals regarding these materials, and also about the proper disposal of debris, etc.

To all who are interested in deco, streamline and mid century lighting check out schoolhouseelectric.com,Awsome selection of authentic made in the USA lighting,And if you are into the original aluminum bar ware and accessories check Payne manufacturing(paynemfg.com) out of Toronto Canada,The original manufacturer of aluminized bar ware and accesories in all the original anodized 1950’s colors.Everything is made in Canada, check out the branding iron is that cool or what. Also americhefusa.com is the only made in the USA retro juicer available on the market, just like the ones from the 1950’s,they are awsome. We need to support these American and Canadian company’s that make the effort to support North American people and jobs.

I have a Nutone Hood #3018/3092 purchased in 1961. I need to find a source to replace the light bulb which is approximitly 17 5/8″ in length and has a two-prong connectors at each end of bulb that attaches up into the light source.

I’ve sent folks here before, Michelle, but I also think there are a couple of other folks who online say they specialize in vintage Nutone. Let us know how it works out! http://www.rinutonedistr.com/

To authenticate my 1955 kitchen, I had a round, or circular fluorescent light installed in the ceiling. Gives off great light.

I got mine at Lowe’s.

Anyone know where I can purchase or order a white globe lamp (preferably white fixture, but silver would be okay) that is okay for use on a patio/outdoors??? Each one I’ve been able to find is for indoor use only….

PugFreek February 7, 2009 at 4:23 am

Oh I’m making a 2 tier paper lampshade and I needed some edging

Tikimama February 7, 2009 at 4:50 am

Susie – did you look at Primelight’s catalog? There are a lot of exterior fixtures there.

PugFreek February 9, 2009 at 8:20 am

Try bunnings or eBay

Susie March 20, 2009 at 4:57 am

Thanks, Tikimama! I’ll give it a try.

Help! I am looking for some replacement “grates” that sit inside my recessed lights (1960 ish) they are round 6″ and have a circular design. Any ideas?

Great stuff here. I’m doing a boom-boom room in TIKIANA (I’m a TIKI carver) and I’ve been watching a lot of the old Alfred Hitchcock T.V. series i get from netflix. A verdant field of 50’s visuals!
