  • lighting — inside & out

Here are some basic recommendations for lighting with a mid century feel. Important: We all care very much about managing environmental and safety issues properly, so when undertaking your restoration project, be sure to familiarize yourself with and use recommended best practices. For example, the EPA hosts a website on lead in the home and a website on asbestos in the home. Consult professionals regarding these materials, and also about the proper disposal of debris, etc.

I have a Nutone Hood #3018/3092 purchased in 1961. I need to find a source to replace the light bulb which is approximitly 17 5/8″ in length and has a two-prong connectors at each end of bulb that attaches up into the light source.

To authenticate my 1955 kitchen, I had a round, or circular fluorescent light installed in the ceiling. Gives off great light.

      I got mine at Lowe’s.

Great stuff here. I’m doing a boom-boom room in TIKIANA (I’m a TIKI carver) and I’ve been watching a lot of the old Alfred Hitchcock T.V. series i get from netflix. A verdant field of 50′s visuals!

Last night, I was watching the newest season of This Old House. The house they were going to re-do was from the 1880s. But in a couple of rooms, hanging from the plaster decor on the ceiling, were lights from mid-century. They really looked so out of place, but since they didn’t fit with anything the This Old House crew was doing, they ignored them, and suddenly they were gone from the renovation. One was just a square glass cover, but the other was a hanging pull-down with a wide cone-like shade. How sad! Wonder what landfill they went into?
