Reader Portland Laura alerted me to these great, new flooring choices. Streaky 12″x12″ vinyl tile from Congoleum.
2019 update since this story was originally published 11 years ago: Congoleum has discontinued this tile. You can see what they still offer in VCT tiles here.
Fortunately, there still are other offerings. See this story for streaky VCT tile options.

This article is 10 years old…so…I contacted Congoleum and they no longer carry the white with blue streaks (CX-91). My best bet is to contact a Congoleum retailer and see if they have any back-stock / inventory of it. That’s a daunting task, to say the least. Does anyone have any leads?!
Brand says
Congoleum has discontinued all the colors. I’ve found a representative who may allow special orders. Perhaps you would like to speak with them also.
I’m doing a 1959 house and think the aqua spring or similar blue would be ideal. I don’t use it that often but I bet a lot of your readers would like the option of being able to order it.
David says
I would like to speak to / special order some of the black and white steaked tile please share the info!!

David, I don’t sell anything. Click the links in the story.
There also are other makers, see this story: https://retrorenovation.com/2015/02/10/23-companies-flooring-cork-linoleum-midcentury-house/

Sorry my comment was directed toward Brand’s statement
Pam Kueber says
David, oh, I see what you are saying. Perhaps: Call Congoleum directly, if Brand does not respond.
David says
Brand / (Brandi?), do you happen to have the contact info for the congoleum representative that you mention in your December 4th comment? I am hitting dead ends with searching distributors and their call center. I really like their CX line & wish they would bring it back…I’ve tried samples of tarkett’s textile line, & Armstrong’s striation line & am not thrilled with them.
Thank you!

David,
He was for the Los Angeles area. What are are you?
I called the trade line at Congoleum and got the rep from my area. You can also call Linoleum City in Los Angeles. They have most of the major VCT lines, they just have minimal color choices now. If you are into neutrals, you are in luck.
Pam Kueber says
Aaron, for other options see this category: https://retrorenovation.com/category/kitchen/flooring/
Brandi says
Congoleum has discontinued their most of their colors. I had a sales rep who wanted to speak to Pam directly, if she’s interested. I think they would like an article to be written to justify keeping the products.
I ended up using Armstrong in Aqua spring and black. It is similar in style, although I did prefer the congoleum.

These are VCT Vinyl Composition Tiles, like they put in all schools, they are not expensive and we laid them ourselves in our Gramma house we built in 1999. Three of our bathrooms, the kitchen and the entire basement. Love them! Perfect with my old timey stuff. We ordered from Home Depot.
pam kueber says
Yes, we write about these a good bit. Many readers have used them (from a variety of manufacturers). See all our flooring research in Kitchen Help / Flooring subcategory: https://retrorenovation.com/category/kitchen/flooring/

I volunteer at a farm museum. We are putting together “The House before Electricity” – 1880-1900 DAIRY/FARM house. Wood floors though out except the KITCHEN. It is a bare room with a door to the parlor and another to the porch, 2 windows and a cold closet at the moment. The large items which are slated to go in are: Hoosier, large wood stove on a mat; cabinets; a basin with a hand pump.
We are also about ready to start on “The House after Electricity” 1960’s [farm house] and will need kitchen and bathroom floor ideas and where to buy [Maryland 21042]. Please remember we are a volunteer group/ read little money. Thank you!!

I recently purchased Congoleum Alternatives in Aqua Spring for my Vintage 1964 Canned Ham Trailer. The color and patter I felt matched perfectly with the already aqua colored stove and sink. Check it out http://www.floormall.com/image.php/images/Congoleum/Alternatives/aqua-spring.jpg?w=275&h=275
Kelly says
I really like the aqua spring. As it is a commercial floor where did you purchase the tiles? I was not able to find anything under the “where to buy” section on the Congoleum website. Thanks!
pam kueber says
Go to a local flooring store, Kelly. You could also check with Home Depot, Lowes or Menards — big box stores — to see if they would order it for you.
Kelly says
Thanks, Pam. I will check and see if I can get Home Depot to order it for me. I love all the helpful information on your blog! I have had a mid century decor for a long time, but I finally have a house I can renovate and have found lots of wonderful ideas on your blog site. Thanks again for getting back to me. P.S. I LOVE your aqua kitchen. It is just beautiful! k

Thank you, Kelly. Be sure to look at samples first! Also, check the thicknesses. Various manufacturers have various thicknesses; I think this makes for quality differences… I have the Azrock Cortina Autumn Haze on my floor. Love it. But, it requires maintenance — I have lots of stories about this on the blog… use Search and see Kitchens/Floors category.
Chris says
Where and what are these tiles called and are they still available from congoleum? Do you have the website where I can but them?
Pam Kueber says
Chris, here is the link to the Congoleum Commercial section, where these tiles are shown. They are in the “CX” section. But all sections are worth looking at: http://congoleum.com/com-tile.html
Please also be sure to take a look at the Azrock Cortina – also a nice, streaky tile. Someone told me the Azrock also is “thicker” — which I think they alluded to meaning that it was better quality. But I am not sure of either claim – have not had time to check it out. Azrock Cortina post here: https://retrorenovation.com/2006/04/01/azrock-cortina-423-is-my-favorite-vintage50s-style-flooring/
