Our Found Objects…Found Art contest continues, with Kate’s entry, below. Just to be super-clear: We’ll publish all the entries online…and at the end, we’ll vote on a list of finalists. Kate writes:
Attached is a photo of a vintage fridge door that my husband found in a dumpster and brought home for me. I cleaned it up, gave it a fresh coat of paint and now use it as a magnet board in my home office. I love this fridge door’s retro shape, lettering and handle, and especially love using it in an unconventional way. It reminds me of a simpler time and drums up images of a 50’s house wife and vintage advertising directed at the 50’s house wife, which I find so kitschy and humorous. This fridge door just makes me happy and I love that it was saved from the dumpster and gets to live happily as a piece of art in my home.
Thanks,
Kate

Hey, now there’s a contest idea for you — whose long-suffering husband has pulled the best object out of the trash for a retro-loving wife? Wayne has rescued some good stuff for me (and then helped me haul most of it to the ReStore when it didn’t work out). But, nothing has been put to use in quite so clever a way as Katie’s fridge door.

…Or even: Who has the longest-suffering husband, period! I know mine thinks he’d win.

You know, I just have to say this: A dumpster-diving husband, what a dreamboat!

That is such a cute idea, AND it keeps the real fridge from getting cluttered! Imitation is the best form of flattery, so I hope you’re flattered that I’m going to file away this idea…
