Erica and Stacy, the photographer and stylist at my recent photo shoot, immediately said I needed a vintage up-do. I liked it. So now, I’ve ordered this book — Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step-by-Step Techniques — so that I can play with additional, classic looks. When I speak at the Southern Shows Home Show in Charlotte on March 4-5, it’s to the beauty shop first, for sure. I’m thinking the Sharon Stone Casino look also is a look with my name on it. Maybe this is an overshare, but I even have a vintage fall (remember those?) that matches my hair color that I can use. Umm, I have two, actually, including one nabbed recently at the incredible Adams, Mass., estate sale.

Ladies…another find for hairstyles is old magazines! I was looking through one at an antique store the other week or so and was going to buy it…until I found that someone had already ripped out that hairstyle! Argh…cause I really needed to know how to put the curlers in.
But, it makes me want to keep trying….so, look for old magazines too! Looking at this book, I think I’ll try the ‘fake bob’ look…that’s what I’m trying to achieve.

Pam,
Google Image: Songs by Kay Starr.
I think that would be your perfect Vintage Look.

I bought this book and it’s got great stuff. That being said, I attempted some of the hairstyles only 2 hours before a night in downtown LA at the Cicada Club and almost had myself in tears. Amateur mistake, I know…should have practiced first….

I’ve seen lots of talk about how great that book is. Good luck with it! I have a fall too. They’re really a must have for lots of these looks. I love that look on the right with the braid!
