Win a VIP special edition Formica 100th anniversary Eames table

Update: There is some problem trying to load this original version of our contest/story.
If you commented before 5:30 p.m. EDT Friday, you’re all set.

Alert: Formica’s 100th anniversary book Formica Forever (affiliate link) is out and now shipping on Amazon.  Formica sent Pam a copy of the book to review. She is actually reading it — not just looking at the pictures 🙂 . So far so good, she says, it is chock full of great info and visuals — a very satisfying 408 pages, a big yummy book.

In honor of their anniversary, Formica also sent us a special edition Eames Wire Base Low Table. Created in concert with Herman Miller, which still manufactures this design, Formica’s special edition tables have been topped with designs from their 100th anniversary laminate collection. Our table has the Red Ellipse. Small in scale — just 10″ high — the table was designed by Charles and Ray Eames and introduced in 1950. See cool photos of this diminutive table in use at the Eames’ house, here.
These special edition Formica tables were not created for sale to the general public. They were special VIP giveaways — and Formica sent us one, because they know we are laminate lovers who take care to give laminate, laminate designs and laminate history the respect and admiration they deserve. So, hurray to a very special giveaway — it could be yours! We’ll run this contest through the Labor Day weekend — continue for instructions on how to enter to win. See you Tuesday.

How to enter to win the VIP special edition Formica Eames table:

  • STEP #1: Add a comment below and in it: Wish Formica happy 100th birthday. Oh, and if you want, tell us why you like laminate, too… or maybe you have a favorite vintage laminate pattern? This one is all about the luv.
  • STEP #2: You must be a newsletter subscriber to win. Sign up here.
  • One entry per person.
  • 50 states only. Sorry, Canada and all other countries. To be clear, it is ME who is putting this limitation on; the table is in my personal possession and I am concerned about the hassle and cost of getting it shipped internationally. I hope you can be understanding about this.
  • Terms of Use apply to all participation on the blog — please read ’em.
  • Contest ends Tuesday morning, September 3rd, 10 am ish Eastern. Again: Winner gets the Red Ellipse Formica laminate Eames wire base low table.
  • Pam will choose a winner via the random.org random number generator… she will check the newsletter log to see they are a subscriber… if so, she will contact the winner (if not, she will move the next person in the comment stream)… they have one week to respond and if she doesn’t hear from them, she will move on to the next person in the comment stream. Rinse. Repeat. Be sure to enter your email address correctly in the Comment form!
  • Pam will post the first name of the winner at the top of this post as soon as they confirm.

Happy 100th Birthday Formica! My first kitchen table was gray cracked ice, but now I have a red glacier boomerang and we love it. It’s gorgeous and so easy to keep clean.

  2. Ryan J. Bateman says:

Happy 100th, Formica! Only great companies make it to their own centennial. Formica is the standard in the industry–great quality and design. I have always loved the bright solid colors that make a splash, as well as the linen and leather patterns. It’s great to see some of these making a comeback. I love laminate because there is a wide range of design options, it is so easy to care for, and when taken care of, it looks great for years and years. Kitchens don’t “have to have” granite. Great design at a great price is possible with Formica.
