If you happen to live near Los Angeles, this weekend offers a rare chance to take home a piece of history from the magical 1954 home of Albert P. and Gloria Martin. When we first wrote about this house, we were forewarned that an estate sale was pending. Now it’s here, and the folks at Hughes Estate Saleshave kindly allowed us to share this sneak peak of the many treasures — including, especially, all the wonderful art by Gloria Martin.
Thanks to reader Jean, for spotting this announcement so’s we could jump on it!
From the estate sale listing:
Fri – Sat / Apr 11 – 12 / 8am – 2pm
Magical 1954 Silver Lake home designed and built by an architect and artist, filled with 60 years of collecting and creating.Mid-Century Silver Lake Time Capsule
Hughes is proud to host our latest sale in a 1954 time capsule. This very special Silver Lake home has had the blogosphere buzzing, and now is your chance to view it in person. The house was designed and built by architect Albert P. Martin and his artist wife Gloria Martin, who took a very hands on approach by doing much of the work themselves. This wonderful home is filled with 60 years of their collecting and creating together, including a large collection of ceramics, paintings and digital art by Gloria.
In many important respects, these estate sale photos are even more fascinating — better to examine — than the listing photos. In these photo — enlarged in the slide show below – we can see all the itsy bitsy architectural details of the home — which was so lovingly created by Albert and Gloria Martin. Close-up, this house appears to be more wonderful… more livable… more magical than ever!
The sale listing notes that certain pieces of furniture — built in by the owners themselves — will remain with the property. Example: The corner sofa above.
Thanks to Hughes Estate Sales for permitting us to show their photos of the amazing contents of this spectacular home!
- If you didn’t see it already, be sure to see our original story about the Martin house — including info on the owners, an interview with their son Neil, and 57 photos.
Is anyone planning to attend this estate sale over the weekend? We’d love to hear all about it.
