Our retro-wonderland constantly surfaces such interesting people and interesting stories. Like: Real estate reporters from the Wall Street Journal who have just bought an old rowhouse with a galley full of Brady Bunch orange vintage steel kitchen cabinets. After S. Mitra Kalita and her husband learned more about their vintage Lyons, they decided to try to incorporate several into their Indian-meets-contemporary, old-meets-new renovation. And, she interviewed me for her blog post in the Wall Street Journal. Read about Mitra’s vintage steel cabinets and how she landed on Retro Renovation.

Nice Article…I like the cabinet pulls. She buys heavily carved 1850’s stuff. I have a house full of 1850’s American country furniture, no frills, no carving.

Today is Saturday and we are off to purchase a concrete statue for the yard. Tacky? Maybe. I want the little girl statue from the movie about the murder in Savannah, “Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil”.

Congratulations on the article! The Wall Street Journal is better than the NYT. You might be close to getting all those pink bathrooms saved!

WOWZERS! This is so great, Pam! 😀 Congrats to you – a very wonderful (and well-deserved!) article! 😀

Now Pam-you know how much we all love you–so don’t let all this attention go to your head–teehee-remember what I told you about the “snooty” experts at the un-named pre 1900 house web sites–your blog has to stay fun–for my sanity’s sake!

Congrats! I knew that color couldn’t be original, Lyon was an early brand that disappeared before orange became popular – someone obviously took their 50s cabinets into the 70s with that paint. Sounds like they’re going to strip them down to bare steel though. Hope they work with someone who knows how to do that safely, and add a rust protective coating.

They are working with an architect… and I think that Mitra has read a lot on the blog. I also gave her the lead and asbestos speech when we talked!

  6. Dot says:

Nice article. LOVE the cabinet pulls. I noticed in the first pic, the kitchen also has what appears to be a Nutone fan above the window. Keep up the good work Pam.

  7. Sidney says:

Congratulations on the link being published, Pam. Enjoy your increased traffic! You get my click every day.

  8. Olivia says:

I love the cabinet pulls. I have similar ones on my lower cabinets and they are pretty good at being baby proof. I with I could find more like them for our next house.

Congrats, Pam! I hope this article spreads the word and you get tons of clicks every day. The blog and website are treasures! 🙂
