Kate - Updated: August 22, 2020

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

midcentury-privacy-screenTour-a-Time-CapsuleToday, let this 1965 Palm Springs getaway time capsule condominium designed by A. Quincy Jones — listed for sale by Mike Johnson of the Paul Kaplan Group — transport you back to the 1960s. The home retains many of its stunning original features and furnishings — terrazzo flooring, decorative block walls and decorative privacy screen — and boasts breathtaking mountain views.

  • Price: $469,000
  • Year built: 1965
  • Square footage: 1,924
  • Bedrooms: 2
  • Bathrooms: 2

A. Quincy Jones Country Club Estates. Outstanding South West Mountain Views from this original builders model featuring over 1,900 SF. Excellent opportunity to create an idyllic MCM property in meticulous original condition. BUYER TO VERIFY SF.

midcentury-bedroomBetween the master bedroom and bath, we spotted a decorative privacy screen. The screen appears to have four panels that run in two tracks and can be arranged so the opening is on either side, in the middle or close off the room entirely. What a lovely, versatile design element.

In both the living room and master bedroom, stacked block walls add interest through texture with a monochromatic, geometric accent wall.

midcentury-dining-roomI spotted another fun functional bit of decor in the home’s Hollywood Regency-fabulous dining room.

This home is absolutely beautiful, and I agree with Norma in that Joan Crawford is all over that living room! LOL! The green accents in the living room are so vibrant and fun. Another terrific Time Capsule home! I think that we can all agree that the privacy screens are as functional as they are eye-catching. The screens are definitely a great decorating idea for me. Last, but certainly not least, is that stunning view from every window…WOW!!! Thank you so much for sharing this home!
