pam kueber - Updated: May 4, 2021

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

Paperboy Steve submits this entry to the Found Objects Found Art contest.

Steve writes:

Hi Pam,

I had to submit something to your contest!

This is a midcentury enamel sign that was designed to fit on top of a car’s license plate. The letters are printed in a reflective paint on its black background. This incredible piece of vintage history was actually found among items in the estate of a relative on my wife’s side named Ernie Le Clair, who had sold used cars honestly in Coos Bay Oregon back then! I like the “car shape” it has, as well as the assurance that he wouldn’t sell you a lemon.

We knew Ernie before he died and he was an eccentric and always entrepreneurial uncle!

Thanks!!
Steve

Hey I was born in Coos Bay! My parents owned a laundrymat there.
