Where to get a toilet seat to match my vintage toilet?

Where can you find the perfect pink, peach, blue, sunset tan, mint green or harvest gold toilet seat for your vintage toilet? We have three basic answers to this common question about updating your 40s 50s 60s or 70s bathroom – including a new-found source. A typical plea:

Hello,

I am new to your site, brought here because I am about to purchase a Las Vegas home built in 1970 (it will be the first house I’ve lived in that is younger than me).  The bathrooms have unusually shaped toilets, in a sort of peachy color.  Anyway, the toilet seats on them are an attempt to match the color, but not a good one, and the size/shape is obviously wrong too.  I am wondering if there are sources to buy seats that matching color and shape for what I assume is original.  I’d love to have them to put right away when we move in.

Thanks, Tami

A couple of answers so far:

  • Bemis’ Color Direct Program
  • Locke Plumbing — this is the “new source” — their image is above
  • Plastic white marbleized seat here on Amazon (affiliate link) — what do you think?? Too cheesy? Have I lost my mind?
  • And here are a bundle of novelty toilet seats available in the U.K. — yes, I have lost my mind, it’s clear.
  • For anything Crane, try deabath.com
  • Buy a wood seat and paint it yourself – see Palm Springs Stephan’s comment in the Bemis story for more info
  • And remember: You can always go with black or wood – which might look great depending on your color scheme

See what I do for fun – I research toilet seats.

Where can I get a tank mountable 7″ on center blue toilet seat? I have only had success with finding a white one.

Clifford, were you able to find a seat for the Purimo? I have one and have been search for three months. Mine is in a yellow-peach color too, sigh…

We are looking for two American Standard toilet seats: 1929, we think

      Savoy – orchid – elongated

      Monaco – burgundy – round

      Did you find yours yet?

Cyndi, be sure to check our Paint colors – on the Fast & Easy paint page or box. There is a “Radiant Lilac” in the Sherwin-Williams interior palette that seems like it could be good for you.

Hey, just my two cents…I got my blue seat (that matches my blue American Standard) at my local True Value Hardware. Yup, the local hardware store (not the big box store), who’d-a-thunk-it?

Thanks, St. Christopher. From my research it’s a wild and wacky world of toilet seats out there – so yes, look locally first for sure!

I just located my vintage magazine,Home Guide New Homes Edition 1957, that has ads from Crane, Richmond, Kohler, etc. All the original fixtures put in the ranch homes here were Richmond, and that’s what we have (Bermuda Coral in one, New Yellow in the other)!
Anyway, I will scan the Richmond ad and send it to Pam, as it was the only one that actually listed the colors in their line and showed each color and its name. .

Well, I don’t think you’ve lost it (completely) if you like the novelty seats! Just look at my flickr.com (username Tiki Lisa) photos and you’ll see the dolphin seat I installed in our blue bathroom to replace the grotty old oak one that I couldn’t stand.

We’ve got a 1948 rambling ranch…with a 1969 “remodeled” bath. Look at the name on the toilet. We have the modern “vent-a-way”. After much websearching, we located a plain white seat and it was about $160. We have 3 brands of toilets in our house and 3 different plumbing supply companies for replacement parts! Good luck!

Thanks, Pam! Heaven sums it up perfectly! I swear, all I need is one of those and I’d have a permanent “happy pill”. Feeling blue? Stressed out? Under the weather? Go look at the pink toilet seat!

Speaking of pink fake marble, I contacted Wilsonart for a sample of the Tearose Illusion laminate and they said it was discontinued…sigh.

Why can’t they make a pink fake marble one???? I would buy it in TWO SECONDS.
