California Kathy’s vintage shelf edging

pam kueber - Updated: November 3, 2020

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

After the post on where to find shelf edging, California Kathy wrote to show some in action. This is wonderful stuff for open shelves, glass cupboards, and as Kathy shows — for showing off collections of vintage bowls and dinnerware:

Hi Pam, California Kathy here. Just wanted to show you the upper portion of my kitchen china hutch with its shelf edging. I scored it on eBay a while ago and couldn’t be happier with how it looks! We’ve been doing a few things to our 1949 Calinfornia ranch kitchen and I’ll send you some pics as soon as we finish up a couple more easy things. Course the “easy” things are the ones that take the longest sometimes! Thanks for all you do! – Kathy

Kathy! LOL! Yes, that would have been me. 🙂 Small vintage world indeed.

Ohhhhhhhh……now I get it. Didn’t quite understand what shelf endging was. Very pretty display, Kathy.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments! Makes me what to hurry and finish a couple more things to see what you think of the whole kitchen.

Maria, the shelf edging is cherries and I love your red beadboard ceiling!! BTW, I may have bought some spice decals from you on eBay a year or so ago. If so, what a small vintage world!!

Lovely, lovely work Kathy and Maria! Makes me miss my dear Grandma’s wooden scalloped edged orange shelving in the kitchen nook.

Yeah, the oilcloth arrived last week but I was trying to wait till my hubby was safely out of the way before I put it up. He is just about to reach critical mass on Too Much Stuff in the Kitchen and I am afraid this may just push him over the edge.

That is one sweet cabinet, Kathy. I’d not know of shelf edging until now. It’s the adorable “kitchen apron” of the shelf.

Love that kitchenware of yours. The combination of red and yellow is just about as cheerful as it gets.

Kathy-Great composition! Nice yellow base and the eye naturally picks up the other yellow collection and takes in the red! You are quite the artist.

Don’t move anything! It is perfect.
