We sure do love our checkerboard floors — lots of ways to play with this idea. Suzanne writes:Hi, Pam — Here’s the checkerboard floor in my 1941 house in Burbank, CA. Note the double border, my attempt to imitate Armstrong’s wonderful patterns of the period. Anyone in the LA area looking for flooring will be delighted with the selection at Linoleum City. And here’s my restored 1940s O’Keefe & Merritt 6-burner 2-oven, 2-broiler beauty. Keep up the good work! –Suzanne (Burbank, CA)

I can’t decide which I am in lust over more: the stove or the floor! I love them both. Red knobs on the stove–oh my!

Hi, I’ve always loved the floors with the borders that follow the curves of the room. You did a terrific job and thanks for the inspiration. I have to replace my kitchen floor in my 1959 ranch here in MA. one day.

Hi, John–
The linoleum squares are from Tarkett. I think they’re the industrial-strength ones. I wash it with white vinegar diluted in warm (not hot) water. Tarkett makes floor care products.
BTW, I’m from Mass. also. Born in Haverhill & graduated from Wellesley High. I go back once or twice a year. Also lived on Beacon Hill a couple of doors down from a stop on the Underground Railroad.
Good luck with your project,
–Suzanne
