Thanks to reader Jennifer Quintana, who spotted this fantastic sale: Starting Thursday, June 16, all contents of the famous Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas will be sold. From the news release:
The Sahara opened in 1952 as the sixth resort on the strip. The Moroccan-themed Sahara was well-known for being a famous hangout of the Rat Pack and is the only remaining casino from that era still standing. There is still that “Rat Pack” feel at the Sahara, from the portraits on the walls, to the last, original camel in the lobby. People traveled far and wide for that nostalgic feeling and this will be their last opportunity to see the Sahara as it stands today.
If a reader can go on Thursday and take photos for the blog — I’ll happily refund your $10 admission and find you something from my treasure chest as well – any takers? Oh, can you pick me up a blackjack table, too?

NCL/National Content Liquidators, leading experts in hotel liquidation management, has been contracted to clear the hotel and casino of its contents.

NCL’s liquidation sale is open to both the hospitality industry and the general public. It will continue daily, Monday-Saturday, 10:00 am-7:00 pm and Sunday, 12:00-5:00 pm. The sale is expected to be well attended so early arrival is encouraged as the sale is “first come, first served”.
Items of interest for sale will be the complete contents of the hotel’s 1,720 guestrooms and suites, 85,000 square foot casino with gaming tables and stools, the “legendary” Casbar Lounge, House of Lords and Congo Room furnishings. Also available will be items from the Sahara Theater, lobby furnishings, brass and crystal chandeliers, (4) bars with all under bar equipment, over 75,000 square feet of commercial kitchen equipment, office furnishings, pool and patio furnishings and other items too numerous to mention. All in all, over 600,000 items will be available for sale.

What I wouldn’t give to go to this sale! I need a 60s-style bar for the basement of my new-old rambler. GAH!
Jana (Berniecat) says
Wish I could go! I’d love a couple of the multi colored wall sconces from one of the restaurants! The outdoor hand rail is kinda cool too. Hey Scott and Heidi- don’t forget the camel clock/lamp to go with your new patio camel 🙂
Francesca says
Oh what I would do for a life sized ceramic camel!
Nina462 says
I’d like 4 of the red/gold bar stools that are at the poker tables. Everything else seems to modern.

All of the big Vegas hotels get updated decor at least once a decade, most of the cool stuff was taken out long ago. The rooms are all “contemporary” decor now. If someone goes I would like a wall hanging chrome tissue box for $2 though!

Heidi Swank says
I’ll keep an eye out for you Zane! Haven’t seen you in ages, I think! 🙂
Scott Swank says

I was looking at the pictures. I want a camel. It would look sooo cool on our shady back patio.
Christina W. says
oh man I wish I lived out that way. How cool would it be to own a piece or 5 from this place? *drool*
Scott Swank says
While I’ll be unavailable, maybe my wife (aka Dr Swanky) can make it. We live something like 1/2 mile away, a couple of houses from Louis Prima & Keely Smith’s (former) house.
pam kueber says
Yes, I for sure thought of you Swankys! Maybe I can get you a press pass to go a day ahead? Umm, that would be: tomorrow!
