They still make the Solo brand coffee cup holders and inserts. We used some vintage holders in various colors and new inserts for coffee at our wedding reception.

Laura — the price is out of my budget now, so I will just live vicariously through you. It would look faboo in my kitchen, but alas….

    I hope you win it!

The A&P, the Big Star, the Winn-Dixie……..how I miss ’em. I know I’ll cry if our Piggly Wiggly (aka, “The Pig”), goes under.

During the one year we lived in Lancaster OH, my mom went to work as a cashier at an A & P. This was around 1965. She sometimes had an evening shift, which meant my dad was in charge of supper. We three kids loved his cooking, not because it was very good, but because he did weird things such as adding yellow food coloring to instant mashed potatoes to make them look buttery, or making breakfast foods like pancakes and eggs. I remember standing in the A & P watching the coffee being ground in one of those grinding machines. I am still amazed that you can stand in the middle of a grocery store and grind coffee at a little machine. What fun! Wouldn’t it be great if we could do other fun things at the grocery, like decorate a cake or use the cheese slicer in the deli?

Wow, I forgot all about those Dixie coffee cup holders and cups. My mom had some brown ones!

My Dad always had them in his store — so they’re a big memory for me, too! Honestly, a good idea!

OK, I am getting that clock. Period. Besides, the auction ends on my birthday!

My first job was at an A&P–there was one of these hanging over the door to the back room.
