SMEG appliances at KBIS

Kate - Updated: June 19, 2021

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

smeg refrigerators with kateIs there anyone out there who can honestly say that they don’t drool just a little bit when they see one of these adorable, colorful SMEG refrigerators? I admit, my mouth was watering while standing next to these two lovely hued refrigerators at the KBIS 2016 show in Las Vegas. I mean, c’mon — the red one matched my shoes! That’s a good enough reason to bring it home with me, right?

    Kate,
Didn’t the wicked witch of the West say something like that? “Give me match my shoes!” She was grooving on Red, too.

That orange one is one tall, skinny refrigerator! Are these appliances “affordable?”

The Smeg fridges are pretty small in capacity when you look at cubic feet. Great for maybe a smaller space. We have a Big Chill which is a more standard fridge capacity at around 21 cu ft. , but I think a large family would find it small (although that’s the size everyone used to have).

I’ve loved Smeg refrigerators since I first saw a picture of one. I’ve never seen one in person, but I still want one. And I know it would fit our space, which most of today’s modern overly large refrigerators will not.

And those appliances! Love the electric teakettle, and the toaster! Oh my.

Love that toaster. Wallace and Grommit had a “Smug” refridgerator.

When I win the lottery I will have a kitchen full of retro appliances. Until then I will have to visit someone else’s kitchen.

I’m still in love with my pink Smeg fridge five years later.

I’m in Canada and got a Smeg 4-slice cream coloured toaster this past Christmas, and it’s GORGEOUS and makes fantastic toast! Although, I will say that I am going from having a toaster oven that made not great toast, so perhaps I’m easily impressed? But I love the Smeg so far. Great bagel and toast-from-frozen settings. The small appliances are all sold at The Bay, FYI, and they are pricey, but often go on sale… 🙂

@Nina462: My newish (<5 years old) kenmore stove has the controls at the front. They do make plastic covers that prevent a child from turning on the heat or gas.
