pam kueber - Updated: November 9, 2020

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

custom home portraitCongratulations to our winner Melissa, whose number came up when we spun the random. Thanks to everyone who entered — your comments were wonderful!!!! ENTRIES NOW CLOSED. And thanks to Christian Musselman for providing the giveaway prize!

Yesterday, Kate took you through the process of working with super-talented designer Christian Musselman to create a custom house portrait of her home. It turned out fabulously! Now, Christian is working with us to deliver a one-two punch by offering one lucky reader the chance to work with him to design a custom house portrait of their house. Continue reading to learn how to enter.

How to enter to win a custom house portrait from Christian Musselman:

  • To win, you must be a subscriber to our newsletter (Yes, this is “what’s in it for the blog” — you can opt out at any time after the contest ends, or continue on for the stories and because we like to do giveaways every now and then!)
  • Then, to enter, use the Comment field on this post below and tell us: What do you love about the exterior of your house — what features would you have Christian emphasize? Or, a happy whatever — we’re easy, the goal is joy.
  • One entry per person. U.S. and Canada residents eligible.
  • Entries close on Monday, May 23, 9 a.m.-ish Eastern — that is, we will close the Comments field at that time.
  • Prize: There will be one winner. The winner will then work with Christian per his process to create a custom home portrait. The winner also will receive a printed copy of the portrait (about the same size as Kate’s) mailed to their home. (Reader is responsible for their own framing and matting, if they so desire.) The process to complete the portrait may take 4-6 weeks, depending on the completeness of the photos provided, the winner’s responsiveness, and Christian’s schedule. The winner also must abide by Christian’s rights and reproduction policies, which he will communicate to the winner.
  • Pam will choose the winners via the Random Number Generator at random.org. She will email the winner. [Tip: Be sure you enter your email address correctly in the email field of the Comment form.] The winner will have five business days to respond. If we do not hear from them, we will choose the next person who commented. Lather, rinse, repeat. We will post the winner’s first name as soon as all is confirmed.
  • Terms of use apply.

Many thanks to Christian Musselman for hosting this awesome giveaway!

And, congrats to the winner of our last giveaway, Lynne, who won a pair of Bella Pamella aprons.

What I love about our 1960 ranch is that it’s a bit different from the rest of the neighborhood. We’re on a hill and the garage is under the house, with a big patio on top of it. Anytime we have to have work done or something delivered, we get compliments on how cool it is. The very first time we viewed it when we were house hunting last year, I knew it was “home”. I’d love to win a portrait by Christian!

I love that we have a house that would make a wonderful house portrait. It is a cottage that grew organically over many years with a variety of roof lines. When we gave it a major rehab in 2012 our architect played up all the different parts and let the stand out while unifying the whole. What doesn’t show is how much we reused, recycled, and sourced from vintage inside. We would love a portrait by Christian.

While our “hacienda” isn’t as MCM on the outside as we would like, it has a few features that I would totally have him include in a portrait of our 1950s home.
One fave is the house number, with the accompanying palm tree frame that is original to the house.

Oh and I’d definitely make sure he put in a pair of Featherstone Flamingos in our yard, and maybe add a few of the bowling balls we have scattered among the front yuccas 🙂

Fun stuff, thank you for delighting your readers, Pam!

I would love it if he could magically omit all the junk my husband has laying around outside the garage!

Thanks for another great give-away. My house exterior favorite – the deep red brick that gives it a traditional look and the large picture window that floods the living room with light.
Pam and Kate, enjoy the week off, guess I’ll have to pore over old posts.

Sorry Kate should not comment before coffee! Read the first post about entering, then went to catch up on yesterday’s, and saw Leo in the window! Perfect!! I loved the doll house posts where you always had Leo!

    Kate,
Love the pix of your little ranch! So sweet! It would have been cute with Leo setting at the front door too! Like your aqua door!

We have a great center of door knob, plus lots of brick and glass.

I love our entry staircase and planters, the chiseled stone facade and the center doorknob with a large rosette medallion.

I would love to have a portrait of the house my parents built (and my mom still lives in) in 1964. It was startlingly modern then and even now gets “Wow!” comments when people first see it. It was built by a protege of E. Fay Jones. My favorite feature is the bridge to the front door from stairs down into a ravine.

Oh man, I’ve had my eye on his art for a while! I loved reading the post about Kate’s process!
