pam kueber - Updated: November 9, 2020

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

custom home portraitCongratulations to our winner Melissa, whose number came up when we spun the random. Thanks to everyone who entered — your comments were wonderful!!!! ENTRIES NOW CLOSED. And thanks to Christian Musselman for providing the giveaway prize!

Yesterday, Kate took you through the process of working with super-talented designer Christian Musselman to create a custom house portrait of her home. It turned out fabulously! Now, Christian is working with us to deliver a one-two punch by offering one lucky reader the chance to work with him to design a custom house portrait of their house. Continue reading to learn how to enter.

How to enter to win a custom house portrait from Christian Musselman:

  • To win, you must be a subscriber to our newsletter (Yes, this is “what’s in it for the blog” — you can opt out at any time after the contest ends, or continue on for the stories and because we like to do giveaways every now and then!)
  • Then, to enter, use the Comment field on this post below and tell us: What do you love about the exterior of your house — what features would you have Christian emphasize? Or, a happy whatever — we’re easy, the goal is joy.
  • One entry per person. U.S. and Canada residents eligible.
  • Entries close on Monday, May 23, 9 a.m.-ish Eastern — that is, we will close the Comments field at that time.
  • Prize: There will be one winner. The winner will then work with Christian per his process to create a custom home portrait. The winner also will receive a printed copy of the portrait (about the same size as Kate’s) mailed to their home. (Reader is responsible for their own framing and matting, if they so desire.) The process to complete the portrait may take 4-6 weeks, depending on the completeness of the photos provided, the winner’s responsiveness, and Christian’s schedule. The winner also must abide by Christian’s rights and reproduction policies, which he will communicate to the winner.
  • Pam will choose the winners via the Random Number Generator at random.org. She will email the winner. [Tip: Be sure you enter your email address correctly in the email field of the Comment form.] The winner will have five business days to respond. If we do not hear from them, we will choose the next person who commented. Lather, rinse, repeat. We will post the winner’s first name as soon as all is confirmed.
  • Terms of use apply.

Many thanks to Christian Musselman for hosting this awesome giveaway!

And, congrats to the winner of our last giveaway, Lynne, who won a pair of Bella Pamella aprons.

The moment I talked to the owner, I KNEW we would live in this house! Down the street from my childhood home….there are 6 …and counting…families who bought a home within blocks of where our parents lived. L shaped ,Roman brick, rambler ranch bliss……

Love the rendering! A couple of favorite elements of our ranch is our front entry courtyard area along with the Japanese Maple that greets you as you walk up to the front door.

I have a ranch style, mid-century home in Mississauga, Ontario. The favourite part of my house is the entry way, that features a peaked roof over the entrance way and floor to roof windows. The windows go right up into the peak.

Since purchasing though, we have been toying with so many different ideas for window coverings. We love the openness of all of the windows, but we do suffer a bit in terms of privacy. I was toying with the idea of building on the outside of the windows, a vertically slatted wooden screen that would cover the lower part of the windows. This should cut down on what people can see from outside, at least during the day, but also remain open and bright from inside. I would dearly love to see our house rendered by an artist and with these vertical slats over the windows – perhaps even with this theme carried along to some of the other windows. If it looks good, I would build it and then submit my finished pictures to retrorenovation-com-staging.enwf9w61-liquidwebsites.com.

Thanks so much for this opportunity!!!!

Our home is from 1947 with hardwood floors and the original peach tile in the bathroom (sadly, no pink bathroom here). We would love a painting showing our cedar shakes, red front door, and the old magnolia and pecan trees. Thanks to all for such a wonderful contest!

When my husband bought a 1970’s home..I cried. When our son who is an architect designed a front porch to complete the Atomic look I fell in love with my new home. Now complete with a 1966 red Eldorado Caddy convertible in the front driveway the look is very complete and nostalgic. What fun this has been over the last year designing a look that I lived through in the 60’s and 70’s. I would love to have a beautiful picture created by Christian Musselman of our home.

How about our retro rowhouse? It was built in 1860 but it’s decked out like it’s 1960 (with an original 1940s kitchen). Those portraits are beautiful!

My adorable 1953 ranch house and it’s 9 block window glory would be showcased in my house portrait…along with my sweet Scottish Terrier- Clementine- in the window…looking out for squirrels!

I would love love love a portrait of my 1956 time-capsule family home. It’s long, low, and lean, like Kate’s, and has its original trees, including a cluster of birches in the front yard, to frame it. Thanks for this opportunity, Christian and RR!
