Yesterday, Kate took you through the process of working with super-talented designer Christian Musselman to create a custom house portrait of her home. It turned out fabulously! Now, Christian is working with us to deliver a one-two punch by offering one lucky reader the chance to work with him to design a custom house portrait of their house. Continue reading to learn how to enter.
How to enter to win a custom house portrait from Christian Musselman:
- To win, you must be a subscriber to our newsletter (Yes, this is “what’s in it for the blog” — you can opt out at any time after the contest ends, or continue on for the stories and because we like to do giveaways every now and then!)
- Then, to enter, use the Comment field on this post below and tell us: What do you love about the exterior of your house — what features would you have Christian emphasize? Or, a happy whatever — we’re easy, the goal is joy.
- One entry per person. U.S. and Canada residents eligible.
- Entries close on Monday, May 23, 9 a.m.-ish Eastern — that is, we will close the Comments field at that time.
- Prize: There will be one winner. The winner will then work with Christian per his process to create a custom home portrait. The winner also will receive a printed copy of the portrait (about the same size as Kate’s) mailed to their home. (Reader is responsible for their own framing and matting, if they so desire.) The process to complete the portrait may take 4-6 weeks, depending on the completeness of the photos provided, the winner’s responsiveness, and Christian’s schedule. The winner also must abide by Christian’s rights and reproduction policies, which he will communicate to the winner.
- Pam will choose the winners via the Random Number Generator at random.org. She will email the winner. [Tip: Be sure you enter your email address correctly in the email field of the Comment form.] The winner will have five business days to respond. If we do not hear from them, we will choose the next person who commented. Lather, rinse, repeat. We will post the winner’s first name as soon as all is confirmed.

We just moved into my grandpa’s old house last year – it is a 2.5 story home from 1915, and it has some beautiful features – sometimes I can’t believe I am so lucky to be able to live here!
One thing I love about the exterior is the bay window at the foyer entrance – I remember sitting there when I was younger, looking our the window at the park across the street. I also love the contrast between the black shingles and the white of the rest of the house. AND, it has a 3-season screened porch on the side of the house, which I think is just fantastic!!
I am loving the comments in this section – it’s beautiful when people appreciate and love the place they call home.

My house has a cool brick planter that wraps around the right front corner. And I just LOVE the front windows. The house was built in 1959.
We moved from a lovely, larger house that we had bought new and lived in about 8 years. It was very nice, lots of mouldings, etc. but didn’t feel like “us.” Prior to that, we had an awesome small colonial built in 1964.
Perhaps I have loved these houses because they are about the same vintage as my husband and I. Ha!

I just bought a 1956 brick ranch, haven’t even closed on it yet!
So far I love everything about it, it’s brick!
And I just found out it is Roman brick!

We purchased a large 1956 brick Ranch from the original owners 2 years ago. It sits on the corner and runs the length of the avenue of our street, because of it’s size and length (and two front door entry points) most people mistake our home for a duplex. What I love (and would like see emphasized if we are chosen) is the Roman brick that surrounds the entry and accesses points of our home, and also the Topiary Pines and landscaping that I’ve designed and planted.

I live in a 1964 brick and stone ranch home in Quebec and I would love so much to have a house portrait, I’m a huge fan of mid-century architecture and I’m only 15. I’ve always been living in that home and I love all the little feature that makes it unique, the home itself has a pretty big traditionnal look while staying modern for its time. I wish there would be more people of my age that likes mid-century architecture ._.

I would absolutely love a custom portrait of my 1957 home! My favorite part about the house is its slanting roof lines and its original red shingle siding. It also has the perfect 3-window front door and slanted-roof, attached carport.
