[Entries now closed] Enter to win a custom house portrait by Christian Musselman

pam kueber - Updated: November 9, 2020

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

custom home portraitCongratulations to our winner Melissa, whose number came up when we spun the random. Thanks to everyone who entered — your comments were wonderful!!!! ENTRIES NOW CLOSED. And thanks to Christian Musselman for providing the giveaway prize!

Yesterday, Kate took you through the process of working with super-talented designer Christian Musselman to create a custom house portrait of her home. It turned out fabulously! Now, Christian is working with us to deliver a one-two punch by offering one lucky reader the chance to work with him to design a custom house portrait of their house. Continue reading to learn how to enter.

How to enter to win a custom house portrait from Christian Musselman:

  • To win, you must be a subscriber to our newsletter (Yes, this is “what’s in it for the blog” — you can opt out at any time after the contest ends, or continue on for the stories and because we like to do giveaways every now and then!)
  • Then, to enter, use the Comment field on this post below and tell us: What do you love about the exterior of your house — what features would you have Christian emphasize? Or, a happy whatever — we’re easy, the goal is joy.
  • One entry per person. U.S. and Canada residents eligible.
  • Entries close on Monday, May 23, 9 a.m.-ish Eastern — that is, we will close the Comments field at that time.
  • Prize: There will be one winner. The winner will then work with Christian per his process to create a custom home portrait. The winner also will receive a printed copy of the portrait (about the same size as Kate’s) mailed to their home. (Reader is responsible for their own framing and matting, if they so desire.) The process to complete the portrait may take 4-6 weeks, depending on the completeness of the photos provided, the winner’s responsiveness, and Christian’s schedule. The winner also must abide by Christian’s rights and reproduction policies, which he will communicate to the winner.
  • Pam will choose the winners via the Random Number Generator at random.org. She will email the winner. [Tip: Be sure you enter your email address correctly in the email field of the Comment form.] The winner will have five business days to respond. If we do not hear from them, we will choose the next person who commented. Lather, rinse, repeat. We will post the winner’s first name as soon as all is confirmed.
  • Terms of use apply.

Many thanks to Christian Musselman for hosting this awesome giveaway!

And, congrats to the winner of our last giveaway, Lynne, who won a pair of Bella Pamella aprons.

My MCM ranch is so cute! We’ve styled it with some occasional modern elements… but my favorite part of the house is the greenery we’ve got. Some retro bushes and a gorgeous crab apple tree on the front corner… as well as a little tiny boxwood that sits in the planter box built into the front of our house. Pics if I win! Thanks for the great blog!

Our house is a split entry from 1973. It is a representative of the most popular house style in the area, but where most split entries seem to have two windows on one side of the door (bedrooms) and one window on the other side (living room), ours has two on each side as our living room, complete with mirror tiles above the bar, leads into a raised dining room via an arched doorway on the front side of the house. Our house is rather long. I love the symmetrical look of an even number of windows, and the white siding with brown trim. Our walls are painted in earthy tones like Cork and Cajun red, and they give the house a wonderful warm glow to come home to at night.

When my grandmother passed away I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase the home she and my grandfather had built in the late 60’s. It is surrounded by the flowers and personal touches her and my grandfather worked their whole lives installing and maintaining.

I would want Chris to emphasize the roof line of our house as well as the contrast between the staggered three quarter height brick walls in the front elevation and the roof. I especially love how, due to thin posts on top of the walls, the roof of our carport and front patio seem to float above those open spaces. The front has no views to the street from inside but the sides embrace the outdoors due to floor to ceiling glass. It is such a surprise when you enter and it makes me smile every time I come home.

I love the “long and low” look of my 1966 ranch!

    Fingers crossed…

The hedges, the magnolia tree, the rose bushes, the front door, the garage door, the walkway, the front steps, etc., etc., etc. I love my home. What more can I say!

Just bought our first house, and I love the little side porch. Our house was built in 1880, and is a mix of Italianate and Folk Victorian. It doesn’t have fancy trim, but it has a great brick front porch and next to it, a small brick porch off the dining room. Just planted a pollinator’s garden between the two, and can’t wait to enjoy it.

Our house was built in the mid-30s. We bought it during the gloomiest time of the year — February/March. Even then, the house just screamed “I’m happy!” “I”m homey!” It’s white with a green roof and trim — and has a small screened-in porch that we love. It’s just always looked like a traditional little Grandma House and we love that!

Too many things to state about what I love about our house! We recently just purchased it from an original owner. I love the history of our house, the orange brick, how the circular wooden details from the front door to the single-car garage match perfectly, the doorbell chime, how the huge front porch protects you from the rain, and just overall how cozy, warm, and humble it is.

I love the stone facade of our MCM Ranch house and especially the starburst on the garage door.
