Contest now over. Congratulations to winner Jennie!! Thanks, everyone, for playing! ENTRIES NOW CLOSED.
The main reason for my recent Grand LA Tiki Adventure was to see the opening of The Art of the Tiki exhibit. The exhibit was fabulous, and the opening night party was insane! There is a hardcover book to go-with, and I picked up an extra copy to go a giveaway here on the blog. And of course, I had it autographed by Sven and Otto! Read on for entry details.
Sven wrote the book, there are tons of great photos, and there are essays by Shag, Otto and Jordan Reichek. Otto also gets author credit because he curated the exhibit. I have not had time to read my copy yet, but it looks like a must-have addition to the super-collectible Sven Kirsten library of titles!
The book’s description, from the publisher Last Gasp Books:
The Art of Tiki is a passionate study of the Tiki idol as an art form. For the first time, contemporary Tiki art is united and presented equally with what inspired it, original mid-century Polynesian pop. Author Sven Kirsten combines his first-hand experiences in exploring the birth of Tiki style with his intimate knowledge of the Tiki Revival, painting a vivid, visually arresting portrait of a unique, always new art genre. The Art of Tiki is published in conjunction with the 20th Anniversary Tiki Art Exhibition at La luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles.

I suppse what is making me happiest house about my house right now is that some long awaited renovations are about the commence: first off is the Florida room. The windows need replacing and the floor needs even-ing (it slopes now) among other things and then we’ll tackle the kitchen. I want to put the Christmas tree in the Florida room where it belongs and we’ll have family dinners there, too.

Delightful idea, Pam! I’m not entering the contest since I’m not a huge tiki fan (although I enjoy it in other people’s houses!), and I want the book to go to someone more deserving. But I’d like to go ahead and say that what makes me happiest about the 1962 ranch home that my husband and I just bought this week (!) is all its wonderful midcentury charm. Starburst frosted glass light fixtures in the bathrooms, Kohler Arrowhead sinks in Suez Tan (I think) with hudee ringgs, red oak floors, chrome-bordered gold glitter laminate countertops, sensible three-point kitchen layout for the busy homemaker–our new home has it all! I’ll send pictures with some questions for you folks this weekend. Pam, you are simply amazing!

The exterior of my adorable little Cape Cod is being painted right now! The painter is a doll and spends half the day chatting with me or playing with my pets. At this rate it’s going to take forever to finish the job. I don’t care – it’s worth the wait!

Our huuuge unfinished basement that allows me tons of work space for all our DIY projects. So great to spread out, work hard, and then go upstairs and leave the mess behind!

I love my mix of mid-century, arts & crafts and kitsch. My latest purchase was a chalkware fish family for the guest bathroom. Love your site!
