No, I have not dropped off the face of the earth. I have just been working like a madwoman on my upcoming talk, “Create a World of Tiki in your Home”, April 13 at Arizona Tiki Oasis. I had thought this would be *relatively* easy, because I’ve given a version of the talk before. But then, diving in, I decided to change out all the photos… I’ve talked to a bunch of people who’ve built home tiki bars… and I’ve found even more resources.
Meanwhile, I still need to tidy up my own Mahalo Lounge… I need to put the darned camera on a tripod so’s I can get decent images what with all that dark lighting… and then, I’ll also have some photos of my own space to show. So… new stories might be a little slow coming here on the blog for a while, while I finish all this up. Afterward, though, golly: I’ll have a whole bunch of new info and inspiration on creating your own home tiki space to share on Retro Renovation. Several folks I’ve spoken too already have said they’d be happy to share their stories and photos here on the blog. I’ve been meeting such wonderful people — just like here on the blog, that’s what makes it all so gratifying and happy-fying!

Looks great, even blurry!

This sounds like it would be a great book. You could include your process photos…have a recipe section…and even wardrobe recommendations! And get some great professional photos of your lounge, too.

Great idea!

Thank you! Yes, I’m wanting to know more about where to go to see the retro in Scottsdale and Phoenix!

I thought the picture was how the room looks after your first rum punch. Pleasant glow.

I am such a lightweight, that’s the room after my first sip!

Understand about thrashing to meet a deadline! We are busy prepping 2 1960s vintage race cars for this season’s 1st event that same weekend. Look forward to photos of the Mahalo Lounge.

I’ll be there and wide awake…can’t wait! We leave this Saturday for ABQ and the Breaking Bad RV tour. Flagstaff, then on to Old Town Scottsdale and Pam’s talk. See ya then!

Woot!

Looking forward to your travel tales upon your return; I know you’ll wow them. Hope to see some nice sharp images of your own Tiki lounge. From the picture you show it appears you have captured the essence of tropical paradise.
Mariele Storm says
Huzzah! Does that mean the Mahalo Lounge is close to completion?
Pam Kueber says
I have not been able to do much more work on it. It is *mostly* finished. There are a few more things I really want to do re some of the details. Alas, when will I get to it????!!!!!!

Sounds like my recent sewing project. Feel better. We’re willing to wait for ya. I’m certain it will be great!

If you need some laughs to relieve the pressure, check out Tiki Bar TV on YouTube. It’s…different ?

Thank you! I worked all weekend — made immense progress. Now it’s “just” streamlining it to 90 minutes that keep people awake!
