I’ve been poking around doing some basic product research — what’s new out there that might suit our old houses? Above: Oh my! The Kiki pendant light from Hudson Valley Lighting. This series comes in two sizes and four colors including — yes — I’m calling the one above Mamie pink! The pendant shade is enameled steel. I think that Kiki could look great over a round dinette in a crisp, clean mid century modern or mid-mod-meets-contemporary kitchen.
Above: Kiki in a light minty green with satin nickel — such a lovely color.
The website says these are specified for one 75-watt bulb. Some of the photos on the website show large, clear, modern bulbs used — a fun, modern look, for sure.
Above: In cream with aged brass — the colors used on the shades in this collection are gorgeous!
Above: Navy is a hot color in contemporary interior design right now.
I also see that “Avery” is a kissin’ cousin to Kiki. Avery has the same colors, but in an upside-down bowl shaped housing.
Where to buy these lights
You can buy these Kiki pendant lights directly from Hudson Valley Lighting and I see them for sale elsewhere on the internet as well.
Hudson Valley Lighting has lots of lights to ogle — what fun it is to browse this site. Much of their product line is “contemporary” — but there are styles here and there that are a bit more throwback to actual mid century and mid century modern looks. Thanks to HVLG for providing me with these photos to feature!

Oh. My. Goodness. Now those are lights you could design a house around. For me, green in the kitchen. Pink in the dining room. White in the living room. Navy….I could find a place for it somewhere, in an office, a gaming room, a man cave. Beautiful!
I swear, if I won the lottery, I would try to be good and give part of the money to charity and the rest of the time I’d spend just building houses I liked and renting them out to people who wouldn’t destroy them or were retro lifers and wanted to keep the older fixtures.

Very pretty light selections. I think Hudson Valley makes quality fixtures. I have bought some in the past.

Fantastic!! I love the Mamie pink too. Sadly I have a brown, Home Depot upgrade version, kitchen in this lovely 1959 split level ranch. So I would likely go with cream…
Has anyone been reading Upstairs at the White House? Written by J. B. West, chief usher at the White House from mid-Roosevelt thru LBJ. He really goes into Mamie Eisenhower’s decorating style!! Fun read.

Hi Sarah, thanks for the book recommendation — I’ll have to get it from the library!
Are you aware of this story/interview I did a while back with Carol Hegeman, Supervisory Historian at the Eisenhower National Historic Site, on Mamie’s decorating: https://retrorenovation.com/2009/09/30/mamie-eisenhower-and-mamie-pink-more-from-gettysburg/
