I’d love to see a tutorial that shows you how to transform a regular old box shed into one of these, most people have box sheds in their backyards. Most of these are kits or complete builds. A site that shows you how to remodel them into an Eichler or modern style shed would be great!

I LOVE these but note…if you are in Cook County, IL, expect a permit nightmare. We were fighting with CC for TWO YEARS about a shed. They required a permit, electricity, etc. and it was prefab kit ready to go. I do not recommend these if you’re in CC otherwise get your ducks in a row in regards to permit. Otherwise, I would love to have one.

In my town, permits are required. Special permits or variances may be required if you need to put in a setback, etc. Check local rules….

These look very similiar to the shed plans Readymade magazine put out for free years ago. Here is a piece about them which has some pics and a link to the free plans. http://relaxshax.wordpress.com/2011/09/14/shed-plans-for-the-md100-modern-shedguest-house-from-readymade-magazine/

Personally, I’m a fan of Modenr Sheds:

I like the choice of exterior materials, the interior finish options, and the flexibility in size and shape.
My dream: a resort made up of a dozen or so Modern Shed cottages overlooking a lake or meadow or otherwise beautiful view. Live in one; rent out the others. Perfection!

I continue to be amazed at how intuitive Retro Renovation is with articles that zero in on EXACTLY the project I’ve been formulating in my head.
Perfect article for perfect project for my mid-century ranch backyard.
Thank you!

These Backyard Eichlers are the best looking sheds I’ve seen. I looked at the modern Tuff Sheds, even going so far as to have one priced out. They weren’t very flexible on the sidings and I didn’t care for the materials.

My wife and I just purchased a cute ranch home in North Tustin and have a large yard that needs a cool extra building to house our 50’s AMF pool table and my design studio. I found a company named Kanga which looks pretty cool. Anybody ever work with these people? I’d love some firsthand knowledge of someone that has built a larger shed/studio in a modern style. Thanks!
