how do you roll up the old awnings, it had a string but it broke and it seems to heavy for just the string to work, could you tell me how they worked?

I do not know the answer to this one… where I live there are still companies that sell awnings – find one where you live and I bet they could tell you…

I am in need of a Faucet for an American Kitchen cabinet that was built somewhere around the late 40s or early 50s. This is a kitchen cabinet with sink and drain board and Faucets all together

Use the Search box – we have a source, although I’m not sure if it’s still available. Search box works well.

My husband and I are working to restore a vintage enamel top table with slide out leaves and chrome legs. I have spent hours searching the web looking for how the mechanism works for the sliding leaves! I can’t find anything! I did find a couple pictures on ebay of the underneath of an intact table with the mechanisms in place, but I still don’t understand it. The springs are long gone, and the “feet” that tripped the mechanism (if I understand it at all) are bent or missing. I absolutely adore this table, and will still use it, even if I can’t get the leaves to work – but sure would like to restore it to how it should be. Any suggestions?

i recently picked up a tulip table. the previouse owner painted the top and i am now in the process of removing the paint. my problem is, the original top is really yellowed, almost amber, looks like it may have been left outside and then sun baked! i have tried soft soap and a “stain erraser” sponge with no relults. what do you think? i plan on using the table in my little pink kitchen. (i have one chair and three to find for a set) other than the discoloration, the table is solid and the base looks real good.

Hi Kara, it’s so difficult to say. Perhaps – have new laminate put on the top? Otherwise, you could repaint the top like the previous owner. There are special products available. See our category Kitchen Help/Countertops for some stories about possible cleaning products. I also have a story about reviving my own tulip table – use the Search box to get to it. Tip: The search box should work pretty darn well no matter what your question is… Also, try the FAQ categories.

We have beautiful grass cloth on our walls that needs repair and regluing. We are not handy people, so we are trying to find a wallpaper person in Denver who isn’t going to tell us to rip it all out. Any thoughts on how to find the right person or calm the people we can find into repairing the wallpaper?

Nope. Not sure where to send you on this one, so many brands back in the day. Put a saved search on ebay, see what pops up over time.

Use the Search to get to our stories about where to buy boomerang laminate. Also, you can see categories — Kitchens/Flooring and Kitchens/Countertops for research on both questions.

We just purchased a house built in 1960. In the attic are 4 vintage aluminum venetian blinds. Is this something a retro renovator will purchase? Of course, they need cleaning and maybe new cords.
