Jill’s 1962 Beatles bathroom

pam kueber - Updated: July 16, 2010

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

Jill writes:

I thought I wanted to renovate my 1962 guest bathroom, but really didn’t want to spend that kind of money. I decided to embrace my pink bathroom after seeing your website, and it sure saved me a lot of money! We used a mix of period decor and more modern “salute to the 60’s” decor such as the record album covers. It was fun.

My husband found out what I was doing, and insisted that I include a shot that showed the early Beatles memorabilia.  Since it’s his birthday and I’ve been making fun of him all day for being even older than the bathroom, I thought I’d include that one too, just to be nice.

Wonderful bathroom, Jill — fantastic that you found the inspiration to save it, and save oodles of money, too. My favorite quote of the week already: “My husband found out what I was doing [sending pics to this blog], and insisted that I include a shot that showed the early Beatles memorabilia.” haha. Many thanks for sharing.

I am totally pea green with envy! Love Jill’s bathroom!!

I was worrying about the potential fro damage too. My guess (hope) is that since it is the guest bathroom there is very little moisture generated on a regular basis.

We have purchased 12 x 12 albums frames at Wal-mart, A.C. Moore and Michael’s. AC Moore and Michael’s have ’em on sale for half price almost every other week.

we have a Cha Cha album over our 50’s bar cabinet and currently Henry Mancini’s Pink Panther, the soundtracks of Thunderball and 2001 A Space Odyssey in the living room. I like to change ’em every now and then to reflect the season or my current mood.

Wonderful and simple: that’s my kind of renovation! This is perfect fun for those of us old enough to know and appreciate 12×12 album art. Jill, would you be willing to share your album frame source?

I was thinking the same thing about the album covers when I saw the pictures. They do look great though. I don’t know if a copy shop could scan them and make high resolution copies of them that you could frame, just a thought.

I think it’s a cool idea! I’ll bet her guests spend more time than they need to in there because they are checking out all the pictures! Love the touches of turquoise in there too! Cute towels…did she make them herself? Great designs.

Hi Jill,My only concern, since the album covers are valuable memorabilia, and have a clear value to them,is the steam /humidity in the bathroom and the effect the humidity will have on the cardboard covers. Over time, actually in a short while the cardboard will become soft and the sides moist, the colors will fade and the album covers will lose their special “touch”.In any other room,it would work, but my fear is the room you chose to showcase the album covers…It is just a tip:perhaps better safe than sorry.I would have had them laminated in order to protect them. You might think about this .It is not a very expensive proposition and will save you much disappointment later on……Love the pink sink!!!!

This decorating theme is so simple, classy, and fun too. Would work with any color bathroom, and any favorite band!

    @John:

If you look closer, she’s got her back to the edge of the wall that seperates the toilet from the shower stall. I had to go back and study it myself, I was also confused for a bit.

    Jill,
I envy you and your husband’s bathroom!
My 1960 bathroom has the same tile for my shower stall as yours, but I DON’T have the tile extending across the wall surrrounding the mirror and sink.
    I am JEALOUS 🙂

Hi, is it just me or are the two pics playing optical delusions on others as well. In the first pic it looks like the shower stall is across from sink but in the second picture it looks like shower stall is next to sink and toilet is across from sink!!! I’m sooooooo confused!!!! hehe

Being a HUGE Beatles fan myself, I can’t help but love this bathroom! I also think it’s great that you kept what you have. It looks wonderful! 😀
