[Contest closed.] Be sure to enter to win this month’s Love The House You’re In collage… like Joe, Anthony & ruff ruff Bella, above. Read on for instructions on how to enter. It’s pretty eeeezzzzeeee….
To enter, complete these two steps:
- Leave a comment on this post answering the question: What’s your favorite flavor for a summer ice cream? And: Cone? Cup? Shake?
- And, subscribe to my newsletter. Yes, this helps me build my newsletter list… I send ’em out just once a week, usually.
Please read all the rules here before entering, they all apply. I’ll pick a reader the last day of the month — so there’s a lot of time to do some crucial ice cream taste testing, as required, to make sure you leave an answer for the ages that’s just right.
Meanwhile — thanks again to Mel for a fabulous collage! You can find Mel’s collage works on flickr and her blog, Much Ado About Stuff.

Plain old chocolate!!! In a sugar cone or a big bowl! mmmmm simple and delicious. Although Ben and Jerry’s cookie dough is a good second choice 🙂

My dad always fondly remembered that some nuns somewhere in the Philipines made him and his platoon mates avacado icecream one very hot and muggy day during WWII. It had been a VERY long time since any of them had had icecream and they considered this a fabulous treat. So, in honor of my dad, who served his country well, I’ll vote for some homemade avacado icecream. I’ll bet they ate it right out of their helmets with the spoons from their mess kits! So, that’s what I’d use.

Ritters’ Mint chocolate chip – in a bowl. (natural ingredients) – Rittlers is a local joint. Breyer’s mint chocolate chip is a good alternative.

My favorite ice cream memory is of eating a scoop of black raspberry in a cone at the Jon-da-Lou Drive-in in Wheelersburg OH in the early 1960s. It was eaten while sitting on the tailgate of the family station wagon while watching the comedy “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.” To commemorate the flavor of that hot summer evening long ago, I regularly go to a Graeter’s Ice Cream parlor to eat a scoop of black raspberry with chocolate chip chunks (in a cup, because I no longer enjoy ice cream melting down my arm). Graeter’s is a wonderful Cincinnati OH ice cream company, and thank goodness they expanded to Lexington KY, so that we can enjoy their ice cream goodness. (Hmmm, maybe I need a break from moving furniture in preparation for refinishing our hardwood floors, in order to run over to Graeters…)
