[Contest closed.] Be sure to enter to win this month’s Love The House You’re In collage… like Joe, Anthony & ruff ruff Bella, above. Read on for instructions on how to enter. It’s pretty eeeezzzzeeee….
To enter, complete these two steps:
- Leave a comment on this post answering the question: What’s your favorite flavor for a summer ice cream? And: Cone? Cup? Shake?
- And, subscribe to my newsletter. Yes, this helps me build my newsletter list… I send ’em out just once a week, usually.
Please read all the rules here before entering, they all apply. I’ll pick a reader the last day of the month — so there’s a lot of time to do some crucial ice cream taste testing, as required, to make sure you leave an answer for the ages that’s just right.
Meanwhile — thanks again to Mel for a fabulous collage! You can find Mel’s collage works on flickr and her blog, Much Ado About Stuff.

Well, my favorite is actually a frozen yogurt, and is only seasonal: Pumpkin Spice! I love it! Pumpkin is the only reason that fall is my favorite season. ha ha.
Love your blog, and just subscribed to your newsletter!
XOXO

I would have to go with Graeter’s Buckeye Blitz in a chocolate dipped sugar cone. Go Bucks!
Elaine says
I love vanilla custard in a sugar cone best, but it is hard to pick just one when there are so many flavors to choose from.
I am already subscribed, and enjoy the newsletter.

MMMMmm. Allergic to dairy…but is there anything as refreshing as lemon ice on a hot day? The bigger bowl the better!

OMG! I am drooling after reading the above entrants…..my all time fave summer treat is a trio of gelato, pistachio, hazelnut and bacci ( dark cholcolate) flavour at my favourite cafe, served of course in a silver gelato dish with wafers. mmmmmmm
……also thanks for the inspiration, I am all the way in New South Wales, Australia, and we have recently purchased a ‘renovators delight’ (currently nicknamed ‘Monstrosity’ due to her garish mish mash of styles….. I am loving every minute of research to restore her to her 1940’s grace and charm, and cant wait to shock the neighbours who probably expect us to gut and modernise. x

Nothing beats the old standard Rocky Road on a plain cone!

My favorite ice cream flavor is pink lemonade! This scrumptious flavor was the middle layer of the pink lemonade cake my mother made each year for my August birthday! Picture this…layer of cake, layer of pink lemonade ice cream, another layer of cake, frosted with fluffy pink whipped cream (the perfect finishing touch).
This ice cream cake was uniquely mine and the shade of pink was the same as the lip color of the “white ginger” bubblecut Barbie, my birthday present in 1961!

Wow, Leslie, that sounds amazing! Any chance you could let us have the recipe? Pink and lemon = two of my favorites.
Leslie says
Here you go Lynn-O-Matic, enjoy!
PINK LEMONADE CAKE
1 (2 layer size) yellow cake mix
1 (6 oz.) can frozen pink lemonade concentrate, thawed
1 c. whipping cream
2 tbsp. sugar
1 qt. vanilla ice cream
6 drops red food coloring
Prepare cake according to package directions, bake in 2 (9 x 1 1/2 inch) pans. Cool. Stir ice cream to soften, quickly stir in red coloring and 1/2 cup of lemonade. Spread evenly in foil lined pan. Freeze 2 to 3 hours until firm. Whip cream with remaining lemonade and sugar until stiff. Place ice cream layer in center of cake layers, frost with whipping cream. Return to freezer for at least one hour.

Thanks, Leslie! I’m going to make this for my husband’s birthday next week. He loves lemon and tart things. We both do. And my daughters will love the pink. So fabulously retro, yet it sounds a lot tastier than a lot of midcentury fare.
