Win a “Love the House You’re In” collage featuring your house

pam kueber - Updated: May 6, 2021

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

[Contest now closed] Carlos was the lucky winner of our Love The House You’re In collage last month — that’s his lovely mid mod, above. This month’s contest runs through Sept. 30 — read on for the rules — and for the opportunity to win a custom collage by our collage artist laureate Mel Kolstad featuring you and your house.

To enter, complete these two steps:

  1. Leave a comment on this post answering the question: So how did you find RetroRenovation.com? I’m always curious to know….
  2. And, subscribe to my newsletter. Yes, this helps me build my newsletter list… I send ’em out just once a week, usually.

Please read all the rules here before entering, they all apply. I’ll pick a reader the last day of the month — so there’s a lot of time to do some crucial ice cream taste testing, as required, to make sure you leave an answer for the ages that’s just right.

Meanwhile — thanks to Mel for another fabulous collage. Here’s what she says about this creation:

I used a slat-effect on this one – the “siding” is hand cut and placed.  I used all watercolors this time for the landscaping, each one layered individually to make the collage more dimensional.  I used the alcohol ink windows again – I really like how that works!

You can find Mel’s collage works on flickr and her blog, Much Ado About Stuff.

I found out about your site like many before me I’m sure. You where on a FB friends homepage, and I said “Oh Cool, A MCM site, gotta join”.

I just love your site. It’s a top priority read when I log onto FB, and I’m proud to say my new motto is “Love the Home Your In”. I’m done with trying to upgrade and comtemporize my home. I now try to work with the good bones my old house came with.

Pam recently posted some kitchen reno pictures in which I described in (probably too much) detail how invaluable Retro Renovation has been in providng inspriation, resources and support for restoring my 1954 ranch which had suffered a 1980’s “demodel” as I like to call it. My husband and I were downsizing and the only way I would agree to give up my 3-story, packed full of “straight off the showroom floor” furniture was if I could have a 1950’s ranch AND he let me furnish it and finish it in period correct design. We shook on that deal 2.5 years ago and I not only don’t miss my mini-McMansion, I’ve actually come to dislike them as it all seems so pretentious and wasteful. As I said in my prior Ode to Retro Renovation, I would still be struggling with my first room if not for the lucky Google search for Mid Century Design and stumbling onto this blog. Now with Retro Renovation’s help, I’m about to start room #4 – a pink bathroom that I have to install since I wasn’t lucky enough to inherit one.

Found your website when I bought my 1960 one owner (who built it) partial time capsule. I started googling and reading everything I could about renovating my home and that is how I found you!!!!
Cant wait to show you the pics from way before, before and now!!! will blow your mind!

I’m pretty sure I found this site when I was googling metal kitchen cabinets. That’s still an unrealized dream but I DID find the inspiration to save our pink bathroom thanks to RR!

I stumbled (happily) onto your ‘Save the Pink Bathrooms’ site when I was doing a search to find pink replacement tile for my bathroom. I immediately took the pledge and was so happy to find others who felt as enthusiastic and committed to preserving their homes’ period details as me! I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading your newsletter, facebook posts and this blog!! Just glad I’m not alone in my love of all things retro with regard to their home!

This past spring I sold my 1911 house with tons of original charm and character and bought a 1953 box so I could get my son in a better school distrct. I was very sad to leave my house so in an effort to pump myself up I started googling and found your blog. I found it inspiring and it made me a little excited to move! I still miss my old house, but I am moving on. My mid century modest box is growing on me even though it is void of any cool original features (the only things left are the wood floors and wood siding). It will be a cool house one day. Oh, yes. It will!

I honestly don’t know how I found you — But I’m sure glad I did!!!

Lucky me… I lured you into my web teasing you with images and stories of Schnauzers….and you finally gave in to having one for yourself!

speaking of which, how is the silly boy doing?

We bought our 1960’s house last May and we moved all of our furniture from the 2000’s into it. Once it was all in, I thought, “This doesn’t look right. What is supposed to go in here so it looks right?” So I started googling 1960’s furniture and design. That is how I ended up here and ever since then I have been addicted. =)
