I used a slat-effect on this one – the “siding” is hand cut and placed. I used all watercolors this time for the landscaping, each one layered individually to make the collage more dimensional. I used the alcohol ink windows again – I really like how that works!

We bought a 1900 bungalow the end of March 2010 that had a 1960’s renovation, in the early 60’s and saw the huge potential in it. The place needed a pick me up and since then we have stripped wall paper, touched up original decor, and repainted a wonderful mod-inspired set of bright colors. I am here for my love of retro look–specifically the 1950’s-60’s. I have a Coca Cola antique theme to my kitchen, a retro yellow Mexican inspired living room, and copper colored entertainment room with reprints of Bogey and other older lobby movie cards. We plan on repainting our house next year, but a love the house your in collage of the current look of it, would be just perfect a reward to our hard work thus far!

We had sold our circa 1888 Victorian and purchased a 1984 Split Level Ranch. We’d been here a few years and it still didn’t feel like “home” yet. So I Googled Split Level Ranch decor and/or plans and was linked to your site.

I was looking for a Youngstown Kitchen label to replace the one on our cabinet face that was damaged, and came across your site. It took a couple of years, but I finally found one. It is not exactly the same as the one that was lost, but it is even better. Also, just like Natalie above, I found that today’s furniture was too big for our 1955 Cape Cod living room and had decided to search for furniture that the house would have been built to hold. Before I found the site, I thought I was alone in my mid-mod thinking!

I found you a few yrs ago while doing a google search for something or another. Seems like everytime I need to reference formica counter tops, or anything “retro” you pop up! I love it! Great website!
I used to look at your site and day dream about owning a mid century home. Last year, we bought a 1960 mid century modern and I have had so many questions answered through retrorenovation! Id be lost with out you guys! Thanks!

oh, I meant to tell everyone – I took a class yesterday, and the instructor mentioned their old house that they “had trouble selling”. Come to find out it was a Lustron house. I was the only one in the class who knew what it was!! I found out the details (location etc), so I’m going to scope it out some time. It’s the 5th one that I know of in our area (SW MI).
She said it was turquoise & that they did finally sell it.

I found your website courtesy of my local paper. The have a Home section on Sundays. It was a little over a year ago and I’ve been addicted (comforted) ever since.

I’m sure I found you by serendipity, as I discovered Young House Love very soon after moving into my 1940 bungalow but felt out of place with my slightly-too-old for mid-mod house. Enter Retro Renovation, with its fabulous 1940s swatches and ads, and I was sold. Then I saw you at the Southern Home & Garden Show in Charlotte. And the rest is history.

My fiance and I had put a bid on a 1948 house with LOTS of original details, such as pretty doorway arches, coved celinsg, plates behing all the doors, and a PINK bathroom. I had no idea what to do with the bathroom, so I Googled “pink bathroom decor” and came across “Save The Pink Bathrooms”. It inspired me to play up the pink by using black, white and mint green accents and I put up some pin-up pictures. We LOVE our little bathroom and our midcentury house!!
