UPDATE: Comments closed; time to pick a winner! Mary Ellen, a regular reader and commenter, was the winner of last month’s Love the House You’re In collage. That’s her house, above, as interpreted by Mel Bushner, our collage artist laureate. You must admit, Mel’s collages just keep getting better and better! Click on through to learn how Mel created this wonderful little study of mid century modest luv… and for instructions on how to win this month’s contest for a custom collage of your very own — it’s easy.
Here’s what Mel writes about this month’s collage:
After I had studied Mary Ellen’s house for a while, I knew what I wanted to do – embroidery! I used to do petit point about a million years ago, and I still have all my flosses and threads and needles. That flower box below the picture window seemed perfect for it! The roses on the right were done with silk ribbon as well. I used a tiny metal mesh for the screen door – another new addition. I love finding new “building materials” for these wonderful houses!
Meanwhile — thanks to Mel for another fabulous collage. You can find Mel’s collage works on flickr and her blog, Much Ado About Stuff.

Grateful for the endless possibilities of artistic wonder that is available on this retrorenovation facebook and blog site. Dreaming of the possibilities of retro renovation that can magically happen in our home, and hungry for a bit of extra cash to get it all started.
Happy Thanksgiving ya’ll!

What am I thankful for? My home , my job, my family..especially the peace that comes with a family member’s sobriety. Nothing in the world can replace a family at peace. God has truly blesed me with these things!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I am thankful for my wonderful family and my 3 kitties. We moved to Phoenix Arizona from Akron Ohio 6 years ago and in this time we have found wonderful jobs, and a wonderful home! It was not a new house but a 70’s charmer and I couldn’t be happier. Little touches here and there and it really has become a warm welcoming home that reflects who we are. May everyone here have a great holiday and a peaceful year to come.

I am thankful for all the places and things that allowed me to create a beautiful home in spite of being a single mom and full-time student: Craigslist, Goodwill, garage sales, DIY books and my own willingness to take on almost anything from deck-building to painting to plumbing!

I love the collages, they have so much personality, like smiles to put on the wall.
I am thankful for each and every day filled with sun or gray with mist, and the love of my family including Ginger the adorable rescue dog. I am thankful to have the health to enjoy life and work side by side with my wonderful husband to continue to build a future for seven generations. I am thankful for the power in us all gifted by the Creator.

First of all I am so thankful for this blog! My husband and I just bough our first home and luckily we are blessed enough that it is our DREAM home. It is a gorgeous 1950’s colonial style house. It needed quite a few pick me ups but with some rich warm paint colors and white trim it is coming along quite nicely! I am torn between favorite spots in the house, my red/white and turqoise kitchen or my beautiful bay windowin the living room with the fireplace. I am so thankful that my husband, my children and I get to live and love together in such a beautiful, historic home! However my walls are VERY bare right now and a gorgeous collage would look amazing on one of them 🙂
