love the house you're in collage from retro renovationMonday update: Some readers have been unable to submit Comments since Thursday. Tech support is working on this. So — I will leave this post open until we get the issue solved, so that everyone can participate. Sorry for the inconvenience! Shelly was the winner of last month’s “Love the House You’re In” custom collage by our collage artist laureate Mel Kolstad.  To win our June contest:  Leave a Comment sharing, “What I am doing for my summer vacation?” This contest rewards regular readers — I will pick a winner Monday morning. Please read all the rules here before entering, they all apply.

Meanwhile, Mel explains this month’s collage:

What an inviting home! Shelly sent multiple views of her gorgeous home for me to use and I chose this angle so that I could incorporate all of the beautiful foliage. I love how it frames the house in luscious greens. And I love the sprawling ranch style – so very late 50s and SO lovely!

Thank you, Mel. You can experience more of Mel’s world at her blog: Ephemeraology

Hello! I have two big Star Trek fans in my household and we are going to Vulcan, Alberta to check out their museum and probably buy some Mr. Spock Vulcan ears!

Vacation? That word isn’t in my vocabulary. I do have plans for the summer, though. We’ll be renovating our new (though much older than our current) house. We recently purchased my husband’s Grandmother’s pre-war home. Most of it is original but some of it was haphazardly redone in the late ’70s. Our plan is to bring it back to the ’40s. My summer will consist of steaming up tarpaper, patching plaster, and discovering “family treasures” AKA random things left behind. Looking forward to it. Vacation? Nah. Adventure? YES!

I love that collage, it feels like you could walk up and ring the doorbell.

I am down in Florida working on my time capsule house. Stanley Steemer was here today, couldn’t do a thing with the grout in the bathroom, but the mid-60s furniture is looking brand new. Lots to do and the weather has been great, so I am really enjoying my “vacation.” I guess the next thing for the bathroom is bleach and a good stiff toothbrush.

In just two weeks we are moving from Nebraska into the 1910 bungalow we bought 8 months ago in Michigan! Our summer vacation will be spent loving living in our dream home and enjoying the covered front porch on MAIN STREET! We are so excited about getting involved in the small town activities and setting up my husband’s medical practice just two blocks from our house. Winning one of Mel’s collages that I’ve been lusting over for months now would be the perfect touch in our yellow, red and turquoise kitchen!

Nina – We’re moving to Howell – it’s between Ann Arbor and Detroit. At least I think that’s a good way to describe it. It’s a very lovely town!

    Just love Mel’s collages!

Walking my dog last night and marveling at the crazy light show the fireflies were putting on, I was glad to be spending the summer right here in southeast Iowa. I’ll be finishing (hopefully) my kitchen remodel (countertops installed this past week … GORGEOUS!!!), tending to my garden (right now a lovely patch of “permaculture”, overflowing with volunteer chamomile, cilantro, tomatoes, beans, and other less productive weeds), playing a few gigs, and enjoying mint juleps on the deck with my hubby. If there is money left over from the remodel, we just may drive on down to my old stompin’ grounds in southwest Colorado, for some fresh mountain air and cold mountain rivers.

Leaving Arid Los Angeles For Humid Virginia/Maryland/DC and then short stints in the Outer Banks (NC) and Atlanta, Georgia. Though I have to admit that I am homesick for humidity (did I actually say that?).
