Win a Marimekko apron or classic Aalto vase — two giveaways this week, from Finn Style

pam kueber - Updated: November 28, 2011

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

alvar aalto 1936 vaseUpdate: Entries (comments) on this story are now closed. Congratulations to winners Renee (vase) and Melissa (apron) — I done spun the random number generator, and their number came up. Prizes awarded! Thanks, everyone, for playing — how much fun to read about everyone’s kitchens! Can you believe it, this Savoy vase, designed by Alvar Aalto, has been in continuous production since 1936 — that’s 75 years. Courtesy of sponsor FinnStyle.com, one reader will win this lovely classic vase this week.

marimekko apronAnd to double the fun, FinnStyle also is offering a second prize for a second reader: a Marimekko apron of your choice. This Kesatori design is my perky favorite — but I count 8 styles of Marimekko aprons, with a total of 14 possible colors. Continue on for instructions on how to enter to win our one of our two giveaways this week –>

Comment to win an Aalto vase or Marimekko apron
from FinnStyle.com

The rules:

  • There will be two winners: One winner of a small Aalto Savoy vase (value: $50), the other, of a Marimekko apron of your choice (value: $43).
  • To enter the contest, make a Comment answering the question, “What are the colors in your kitchen?” You’d want an apron to coordinate, of course!
  • I’ll choose the winner by Random Number Generator Tues. morning-ish, Nov. 22.
  • You must reply to my email within 7 days, or else I move on to the next in line. I’m not chasing you. Make sure your email is correct.
  • U.S. only.
Thank you, FinnStyle!

I was born in Finland so you can just guess the colors in my kitchen: red toaster, blue stand mixer, blue/green/red striped rag rug on the floor surrounded with yellow walls. I need bright colors living on Oregon Coast. Cheers!

Logs and chinking, gray linoleum floor with red/yellow insets, green Fire King objects, black wood cookstove.

My kitchen , a rental, is 80s oak cabs and butcher block laminate counters, which I have attempted to liven up with a beehive stainless steel blender, a retro style Oster convection/toaster oven, and an Alessi Starck juicer, which looks cool but isn’t very effective for a morning glass of oj.

My kitchen is white with mid-beige cabinetry, neutral flooring. Boring! The color would add so much, and you can’t go wrong with Marimekko! Aalto is always first class!

My kitchen colors are gold, green and electric blue – knotty pine cupboards and curava counters in the jungle moon colorway. Sort of sophisticated summer camp!

Ack! My kitchen’s current colors are brown, brown, and more brown! It is a 1978s time capsule, and not in a good way! We are looking at ways to brighten it up. That apron and some Gerbera daisies in the vase would at least get us started!

Golden oak and white are my kitchen colors, and I’m ordering a beautiful Marimekko tablecloth today, from Finnstyle, for the holidays!!

My kitchen colors come from Martha Stewardt’s paint line– haystack walls and picket fence base cabinets and shelves. My floor is checkerboard Azrock tile Spearmint and Cirrus (a mix of mostly white, coral, and spearmint). Of course there are pops of pink! 🙂
