Win a Marimekko apron or classic Aalto vase — two giveaways this week, from Finn Style

pam kueber - Updated: November 28, 2011

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

alvar aalto 1936 vaseUpdate: Entries (comments) on this story are now closed. Congratulations to winners Renee (vase) and Melissa (apron) — I done spun the random number generator, and their number came up. Prizes awarded! Thanks, everyone, for playing — how much fun to read about everyone’s kitchens! Can you believe it, this Savoy vase, designed by Alvar Aalto, has been in continuous production since 1936 — that’s 75 years. Courtesy of sponsor FinnStyle.com, one reader will win this lovely classic vase this week.

marimekko apronAnd to double the fun, FinnStyle also is offering a second prize for a second reader: a Marimekko apron of your choice. This Kesatori design is my perky favorite — but I count 8 styles of Marimekko aprons, with a total of 14 possible colors. Continue on for instructions on how to enter to win our one of our two giveaways this week –>

Comment to win an Aalto vase or Marimekko apron
from FinnStyle.com

The rules:

  • There will be two winners: One winner of a small Aalto Savoy vase (value: $50), the other, of a Marimekko apron of your choice (value: $43).
  • To enter the contest, make a Comment answering the question, “What are the colors in your kitchen?” You’d want an apron to coordinate, of course!
  • I’ll choose the winner by Random Number Generator Tues. morning-ish, Nov. 22.
  • You must reply to my email within 7 days, or else I move on to the next in line. I’m not chasing you. Make sure your email is correct.
  • U.S. only.
Thank you, FinnStyle!

My kitchen is all natural tones, tans and creams, with pops or dark burgundy reds. All of the cabinets are hand made from white birch wood and the counter tops are tiled with creams, and tans with a few burgundy tiles here an there to make it pop. I love my kitchen and am almost done with it. I think the the vase would look great on the new bar area, or the apron on the wall!!

Butter yellow St. Charles metal cabinets, sage green walls, Terra-cotta colored tile floors and Formica, stainless steel appliances with splashes of red-orange throughout.

My kitchen has dark mint green painted surfaces, forest green tile countertops and backsplash, mahogany cabinets and wallpaper with shades of mint, dark green almost black, avocado and gold leaf. We think it was done about 1963 to a 1957 house though the wallpaper maybe original. The print on the wallpaper includes sketches of avocados overprinted with gold leaf highlights.

The colors in my kitchen are currently TAN, but will have been in the process for 3 years (currently in dreaming stage) of changing to 1950’s primary colors! Maybe if I won an apron to match, I’d be forced to get the ball rolling 🙂

I painted the tired old white cabinets — cream coloured doors on birch yellow cabinets. White appliances and countertops on a natural cork floor.

Just found the site today, and love it! Thanks!
