Win a Marimekko apron or classic Aalto vase — two giveaways this week, from Finn Style

pam kueber - Updated: November 28, 2011

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

alvar aalto 1936 vaseUpdate: Entries (comments) on this story are now closed. Congratulations to winners Renee (vase) and Melissa (apron) — I done spun the random number generator, and their number came up. Prizes awarded! Thanks, everyone, for playing — how much fun to read about everyone’s kitchens! Can you believe it, this Savoy vase, designed by Alvar Aalto, has been in continuous production since 1936 — that’s 75 years. Courtesy of sponsor FinnStyle.com, one reader will win this lovely classic vase this week.

marimekko apronAnd to double the fun, FinnStyle also is offering a second prize for a second reader: a Marimekko apron of your choice. This Kesatori design is my perky favorite — but I count 8 styles of Marimekko aprons, with a total of 14 possible colors. Continue on for instructions on how to enter to win our one of our two giveaways this week –>

Comment to win an Aalto vase or Marimekko apron
from FinnStyle.com

The rules:

  • There will be two winners: One winner of a small Aalto Savoy vase (value: $50), the other, of a Marimekko apron of your choice (value: $43).
  • To enter the contest, make a Comment answering the question, “What are the colors in your kitchen?” You’d want an apron to coordinate, of course!
  • I’ll choose the winner by Random Number Generator Tues. morning-ish, Nov. 22.
  • You must reply to my email within 7 days, or else I move on to the next in line. I’m not chasing you. Make sure your email is correct.
  • U.S. only.
Thank you, FinnStyle!

My kitchen has white cabinets, white appliances (including an old tappan stove which, if not original, has been here a long time) and grey formica counters and grey tile floors. The walls are painted teal. While it’s not totally retro, it isn’t totally updated either & I love retro touches like marimekko designs.

My kitchen is part vintage, part modern. It’s got tone-on-tone white and pearl gray, with black countertops and a rich dark mint floor. The accent color is banana-pepper yellow.

My Kitchen is currently the original 1958 kitchen from when the house was built. We are in the process of trying to figure out what we want to do with it… we have what I believe are birch? cabinets, a lovely GM oven, a vent hood that is the size of a small car and white counters… so it is just white, light brown and dark brown. Let me know if you’d like photos! Cheers

Our kitchen is accented with Marimekko’s Unikko design (lime/yellow).

I rent my place, so the colors in my kitchen are pretty bland. Light mocha walls,
dark cabinets, and black counters. I love adding color through accessories. I have green plants in my window, a red utensil holder, a gunmetal mixer and brightly colored frying pans. Most times there is a bowl filled with fresh fruit for good measure. I’m always hunting for new fun ways to brighten up the place.

My kitchen is Appleblossom Pink, Chelsea Gray, and has domino marmoleum floors, charcoal boomerang formica, and grey and black tiled backsplash….The Marimekko Fokus Apron would fit right in…..

My kitchen is off white walls, sage green metal kitchen cabinets (Geneva, exactly like yours but someone painted over the awesome original color, boo), and a red painted door leading to the outside. The floor is dark (charcoal?) vinyl tiles with white flecks. Sounds like a weird combo but it’s actually pretty cool. Just wish my cabinets were still turquoise! 🙂
