This Mid-Century Modern home brings a classic style that intrigues today’s modish buyer. Roof lines, retro details, angular walls & ceilings along with dramatic floor to ceiling windows are the epitome of mid-century design. Architect Julian A. Altobellis designed, the home incorporates not only the architecture of the era, but also building standards rarely found. Solid steel & concrete construction provides strength that will last for generations to come. Other features include rear/side alley access, original hardwood floors that have been covered with carpet since new, marble flooring in the foyer & formal dining room and tile in the kitchen. Located in the sought after Forest Hills/Oleander area, the home is situated on a .68 acre parcel. The neighborhood has a quiet setting & offers a flair of yesteryear with its tree lined streetscape and sidewalks. In just minutes, enjoy the rich culture of Historic Downtown with many fine dining restaurants, nightlife, arts & entertainment.
The home has some lovely colorful vintage bathrooms, like this charming mint green with dark green bullnose combination. And wow — the mud-set tile: That stuff is built to last!
This peachy-beige bathroom has some fantastic vintage seashell wallpaper — and the sink is super cool.
And then there is this oh-so-adorable pink and white striped tile bathroom with cheery floral vintage wallpaper — and on the ceilings, too! I can’t remember ever seeing a striped tile bathroom quite like this before. So cute.
Look at this cool kitchen — complete with vintage appliances and hudee rimmed sink. Oh, look at the electric range top burners all three-in-a-row! The color of these cabinets: Classic and timeless.
The angle of the cabinets certainly adds to the mid century modern appeal of the space.
I have a screened porch at my retro ranch and can attest to how great they are to have during a buggy but nice sumer evening, my porch is nowhere as big as this fantastic screen porch. And the design of these screens — and how they are angled up the roof line: Wow.

I am in love with the minty green bath!!! And that wallpaper in that bathroom is amazing!!! I love the whole house actually. Since we’ve decided to stay put where we are, we are also redoing our main floor (it’s a ranch modular) in MCM also and I have just the bathroom for the minty green! Our basement is also MCM, not quite finished but getting there and more for entertaining. Thanks for such great finds!

What a coincidence — I too had never seen a bathroom with tiles put up in stripes, and now twice in 24 hours. Last night the DIY channel’s “Rescue My Renovation” (or possibly “Property Brothers”) showed a house where a bathroom had vertical stripes of blue and white tiles, and I started fantasizing about it as a cheap but fun idea when we redo our upstairs bath. This being a 2013 TV show, we inevitably saw that tile removed with a sledge hammer, along with a perfectly good sink, toilet and tub.

Oh! My! Gosh! This might be the best TC yet. And, it’s right down the road in Wilmington, NC. Please, please let the buyer be someone who will love it as is. It would be sacrilege to harm one hair of this fabulous house.
Kate, you made my day!

Love this house tour. Very similar look and feel to my house–only this one’s much grander and has elements I only wish our simple ranch did. But the kitchen cabinets are the same wood color and shape, sink, counter (I think I’m seeing yellow formica), and cook top (ours is just one unit, not the trifecta). And the beams and brick combo and sliding closet doors are the same as ours. I got some really good ideas of things we could better enhance. And all the windows. Wish we had that cool screened in area… Thanks for posting!

Love the house but I’ve been looking for ideas to build a screened porch for my 1957 ranch home that will be period correct. The porch is perfection!

Yes, that screen porch really is something. I want a screen porch with a brick floor, too, now!

Wow! This place is fantastic – not only is nearly (maybe even all) every detail retained, it was an awesome configuration right from the start. What a spectacular find!

Yes, the only things I really spot “off” are lights in the kitchen. Easily remedied. I am also taken by the flooring — I wonder, is real tile there in the dining room? Or resilient? I am thinking: Resilient, very well maintained.

I wish we had a better picture of the kitchen flooring. Sheet linoleum? Cork?
pam kueber says
Looks like sheet in a lot of the rooms.

I absolutely love this architectural style with the long angled roof. Does anyone know what it is called?
lynda says
I have always thought they were called shed roofs. If you do a google picture search for contemporary shed roofs, quite a few show up.
Allen says
I have always heard this called post and beam architecture.

My guess is that it’s an exagerrated, asymmetrical front gable roof. The roof is technically gabled, anyway. As far as I know, a shed roof is just a roof with a single pitch like this one: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/23553496_zpid
I love shed roofs. I’m also quite fond of hipped roofs.
pam kueber says
I don’t know the technical term… but I certainly love this roof line for a split level!

We have a fair number with this roof style in our neighborhood. Our house is not one of them. We just have a single-level small brick ranch.
Some of the split levels here have an awkward layout such as the kitchen in the basement, but most kitchens are on the main level.

Love the architectural details and the original features. I’d have to go with th peachy/beige bathroom as my favorite. I’d go with a little softer wallpaper in it though.
Check out this house in Spokane. The black and pink bathroom is awesome, although I’d put some proper floors in it, something that went better with the “marble” tile. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/23478759_zpid

All I can say is WOW!!!

We have a green bathroom that looks a lot like this one…I’ve been trying to find a wallpaper for it and this one looks great with the tile…any suggestions on where I can find something similar?
Lee Breeze says
We have the same green tile in one bath, and we’re looking at something with pink, perhaps roses or somesuch. I put a pink swatch on the wall, and it looks pretty nice.
