Contest now completed: Congratulations to Mary, winner of the Lava Lamp! Thanks, everyone, for playing!

It was fun to write about the 50 year history of Lava Lamps (and see those 20+ vintage designs). Now to follow up: A giveaway courtesy of Lava Lite LLC. One lucky winner will receive a 16.3″ special 50th Anniversary edition of the Lava Lamp — in an cool yellow, purple and gold color combination.

How to enter to win a 50th Anniversary 16.3″ Lava Lamp:

  1. To win, you must be a subscriber to our newsletter (Yes, this is “what’s in it for the blog” — you can opt out at any time after the contest ends.)
  2. To enter, keep scrolling to the Comment field below and tell us where you would use your Lava Lamp. Or a Lava Lamp memory. Or whatever, we’re easy.
  3. One entry per person. Lower 48 U.S. delivery addresses only.
  4. Entries close on Thursday, Oct. 29, around 5 p.m. Eastern — that is, we will close the Comments field at that time.
  5. Prize: One winner will receive one 16.3″ 50th Anniversary yellow wax/purple liquid/gold cap & base Lava Lamp sent directly from Lava Lite LLC.
  6. Pam will choose the winners via the Random Number Generator at random.org. We will email the winner. [Tip: Be sure you enter your email address correctly in the email field of the Comment form.] The winner will have five business days to respond. If we do not hear from you, we will choose the next person who commented. Lather, rinse, repeat. We will post the winner’s first name as soon as all is confirmed.
  7. Terms of use apply.

Many thanks, Lava Lite LLC!

When i was growing up in the 1970’s there was a neighbor who had a big lamp on a gold base with red lava inside of it. It was on top of their TV. I found it mesmerizing!

Having a lava lamp will help me overcome my fear of the dark!

When I was 10yrs old in ’64 I wanted a Lava Lamp sooo badly..even saved my earnings from my ‘after school’ job at my Dad’s little grocery store to purchase one. Sadly my Mother was totally against it, and told me ‘only Beatniks have those things!’..regretfully, I never got one back then. Now (as an ‘older/wiser’ adult), I have redecorated the living room of my little duplex that was built in ’54..it’s ‘eclectic’ and very ‘Bohemian’. The Lava Light would fit right in and my kitties would love it!. My Mother came to visit this past summer, when she walked into my living room she said ‘I always knew you were a Beatnik!’ 🙂

I’m “restoring” my 70’s ski lodge house and that would look perfect in my dining room! It will go great with the flokati rug.

Whatever…… I heard you’re easy! OK so seriously, I had a gold and blue one in the 80’s. I was in the band and tried to live up to the cool band kid thing (yes, that’s a joke, you can laugh) but also listened to my Mom and Dad and Nancy Reagan and kept saying “no”. My only hope for an altered reality was listening to Pink Floyd in the blue lava glow. I’m still in the band, still trying to be cool…. So i NEED THAT LAMP! Thanks for all the truly superb content!

Lava lamps will always remind me of my grandparents, they had two of them, going continuously. I still have them, and light them up for the occasional party. They totally make the mood.

I would plunk that wonderful Lava Lamp right in the middle of my Halloween goodie/treat table surrounded by some of my wonderful vintage Halloween decor!! I can picture it now…….groovy!

I remember as a kid when these crazy Lava Lamps first came out, my uncle had bought one, and I was pretty mezmerized watching it constantly changing…..I always thought of melted swiss cheese floating around inside and doing the coolest things – Peace!
