Contest now completed: Congratulations to Mary, winner of the Lava Lamp! Thanks, everyone, for playing!

It was fun to write about the 50 year history of Lava Lamps (and see those 20+ vintage designs). Now to follow up: A giveaway courtesy of Lava Lite LLC. One lucky winner will receive a 16.3″ special 50th Anniversary edition of the Lava Lamp — in an cool yellow, purple and gold color combination.

How to enter to win a 50th Anniversary 16.3″ Lava Lamp:

  1. To win, you must be a subscriber to our newsletter (Yes, this is “what’s in it for the blog” — you can opt out at any time after the contest ends.)
  2. To enter, keep scrolling to the Comment field below and tell us where you would use your Lava Lamp. Or a Lava Lamp memory. Or whatever, we’re easy.
  3. One entry per person. Lower 48 U.S. delivery addresses only.
  4. Entries close on Thursday, Oct. 29, around 5 p.m. Eastern — that is, we will close the Comments field at that time.

  6. Pam will choose the winners via the Random Number Generator at random.org. We will email the winner. [Tip: Be sure you enter your email address correctly in the email field of the Comment form.] The winner will have five business days to respond. 7. Terms of use apply.

Many thanks, Lava Lite LLC!

We have a 1955 raised ranch, which we are in the slow process of renovating. For years we tried to fit today’s size furniture in it. When we finally gave in to what the house was screaming for, we found we so enjoy hunting for the pieces our house needs. Now that we have gone totally retro throughout the whole house, we LOVE it. Our Master Bedroom would be a cool place for this lava lamp!

Naturally, it would go atop my 1965 Magnavox console stereo!

We finished our basement “rec room” and did it completely mid-mod. I will be posting pictures soon. The Lava Lamp would go perfectly there!

This belongs in the groovy party pad basement of my ’57 home.

I think this look great in the 1959 addition with heart pine paneled walls that my grandparents installed. I’ll be hosting Thanksgiving in that room and it could add just the right touch!

I always wanted a lava lamp as a kid. It’d be really fun and groovy to put it in my office for a bit of fun.

I just became the proud owner of a door from a 1930-40’s Hotel that use to be in our small village. My first choice was to use the door as a “art object” to lean against a wall. Door #9 is to special for that life. It deserves so much more. It will be the new door to bedroom that my late husband and I shared for many years. My plans are to refurbish the room to look like a one-room apartment that the former Hotel rented by day, week, or month it its hay-day. One of my best friends (85-yrs old) rented a room in that Hotel in the late forties after graduation, Let the fun begin! Pictures to follow.

It’d look fantastic in our finished basement–it’s got green carpeting, wood panelling, and low ceilings. Just perfect!!!
