I can remember when all us “girls” had lava lamps in our bedrooms and when our boyfriends came over we would switch them on, place some 45s on the record player, hold hands with our sweethearts and occasionally get in a little smooch. So sweet and romantic before all the texting… Romance bloomed because of lava lamps and I wonder how many marriages resulting from them – Ah, remembering the past. I would love to have this for the nostalgia and place it next to my bed to keep me company…to remember the quieter times…Sandra

We just finished renovating a 1970 Atomic Ranch home and this would fit right into the living room coffee table. Having lived through the Hippie era this will have fond memories!

This would look so groovy in the living room of my 1959 ranch!

Back in the early 70s, I lived in Cambridge, Mass. In between jobs, I saw an ad to assemble Lava-like lamps. When I went to the small factory in Cambridge, it turned out that the owner was Henri Matisse’s grandson. I was thrilled to meet him but needless to say, putting together these lava lamp knock offs was worse than tedious so I sadly was not able to make a long-term career out of it. If only I understood then how cool lava lamps are – even the faux ones made by the rich and famous.

I am planning to move from my house to an apartment to in corporate all of my tastes each room will have a different motif my living room is going to be my “hippie”/60’s-70’s room {I’m 64} with multi colors PEACE/LOVE wall decore etc. so naturally the lava lamp would go in there

i’ve been subscribed for ages ♥ i loved the lava lamps i saw when i was little – the ones dusty and mostly ignored (it was, after all, the 80s by that point) and when they came back around in the 90s i was given several. mostly all purple housing, clear liquid, purple goo. those suckers put out a lot of light!
i remember one of them had a story on the side of the box telling the “story” of the prehistoric lava and how it came to be part of a lamp (all made up, of course, being glycerin and wax).
and how sad i was when my husband and i picked up an incredible vintage one at an estate sale (brushed gold housing, all fancy and extra jumbo sized) that had a break in the seal in the bottle-cap holding it all closed so it didn’t work right. and then it got cracked before we could figure out if it could be fixed.
i think i kept the housing, though!

I remember hanging out in my parents basement with my boyfriend Richie getting up to no good with my lava lamp on as atmosphere! My mother or father would keep turning the big light on from upstairs and I would turn it off again. All night long.
