Congratulations to our winner Melissa, whose number came up when we spun the random. Thanks to everyone who entered — your comments were wonderful!!!! ENTRIES NOW CLOSED. And thanks to Christian Musselman for providing the giveaway prize!
Yesterday, Kate took you through the process of working with super-talented designer Christian Musselman to create a custom house portrait of her home. It turned out fabulously! Now, Christian is working with us to deliver a one-two punch by offering one lucky reader the chance to work with him to design a custom house portrait of their house. Continue reading to learn how to enter.
How to enter to win a custom house portrait from Christian Musselman:
- To win, you must be a subscriber to our newsletter (Yes, this is “what’s in it for the blog” — you can opt out at any time after the contest ends, or continue on for the stories and because we like to do giveaways every now and then!)
- Then, to enter, use the Comment field on this post below and tell us: What do you love about the exterior of your house — what features would you have Christian emphasize? Or, a happy whatever — we’re easy, the goal is joy.
- One entry per person. U.S. and Canada residents eligible.
- Entries close on Monday, May 23, 9 a.m.-ish Eastern — that is, we will close the Comments field at that time.
- Prize: There will be one winner. The winner will then work with Christian per his process to create a custom home portrait. The winner also will receive a printed copy of the portrait (about the same size as Kate’s) mailed to their home. (Reader is responsible for their own framing and matting, if they so desire.) The process to complete the portrait may take 4-6 weeks, depending on the completeness of the photos provided, the winner’s responsiveness, and Christian’s schedule. The winner also must abide by Christian’s rights and reproduction policies, which he will communicate to the winner.
- Pam will choose the winners via the Random Number Generator at random.org. She will email the winner. [Tip: Be sure you enter your email address correctly in the email field of the Comment form.] The winner will have five business days to respond. If we do not hear from them, we will choose the next person who commented. Lather, rinse, repeat. We will post the winner’s first name as soon as all is confirmed.
- Terms of use apply.
Many thanks to Christian Musselman for hosting this awesome giveaway!

What an honor it would be to win this. I love the green accents on my house so I think I’d want him to accent that. I’d also love my 2 pups in the window. Such an awesome touch!

Just had my home painted and added a porch so a portrait of the new place would be awesome!

The stone work on the front of my 1962 ranch is what first caught my attention. To show it off, I recently cut down some bushes that were covering it up. I also enjoy the two large windows in the living room that allow me to see the whole front yard. I’ve lived in the house for over 20 years and still love it.

I love our sweet little 1949 Cape with its original door boasting three square windows. An itty bitty porch overlooks our little green patch of lawn and old oak tree and it’s just perfect!

We live in a great neighborhood that was built in 1952 and has some adorable ranch houses. As McMansions pop up and slowly eat away at the original architecture I would love to have a a piece of ours preserved for us and of course our little girl. I think it would be really special to have and accurate and darling portrait of the home you grew up in not to mention inspiring for 7 y.o. artist in residence.

I would love to have a portrait done of my 1955 ranch. All the original detailing still exists and has been untouched, including the garage door detailing and window boxes. I would share the portrait with the previous owner of 52 years as she really, really cared for the house.

Cool giveaway!
There are things I don’t like about the exterior of my 1970s modern house that I hope to fix — like the beige (!) vinyl siding molded to look like cedar shake (!!!!) because the primary owner was convinced that would make sense for the house … it doesn’t …
But my two favorite things about the “street view” of my house are the clerestory windows at the center top of the house, which bring light down into the double-height living room, and the way my house is set into a hill — it’s a main story with a large basement, but looks almost three stories tall set into the side of a hill. From the kitchen window looking down, you feel like you’re in the mountains and the cul-de-sac is a pond 🙂
