Get the look of mother of pearl / cracked ice laminate with Wilsonart Crystalized White

pam kueber - September 27, 2016, Updated: August 10, 2020

wilsonart-crystalized-whitecracked ice laminateIf you love the look of old mother of pearl aka cracked ice or crackle ice laminate, I found a new version — Wilsonart’s Crystalized White — that is a decent proxy and could be a great choice for a Retro Renovation kitchen or bathroom countertop, especially if you want something neutral but with with some abstract multidirectional pattern — i.e. motion.

It’s part of Wilsonart’s growing Virtual Design Library (where our Retro Renovation® by Wilsonart series also is made!)

Of course, if you want color crackle ice, you can still get that, too, in red, yellow or gray — and hey, I think these area lso made by Wilsonart. See our story on the cracked ice laminate options here.

  • Still not what you want/need? See all our laminate countertop research here, including this important overview story: 10 companies that make laminate.

We are looking for yellow cracked ice vinyl to reupholster our original diner chairs.
We know that there is the reproduction vinyl, but we can’t use it because of the pixelation (the dots of color laid down during digital printing) as well as the yellow being too dark.
Does anyone have an idea where we could find deadstock yellow cracked ice vinyl or a reproduction vinyl without the pixelation?
    Thank you so much!

This isn’t crackle ice, but it’s true deadstock — https://retrorenovation.com/2015/05/13/vintage-vinyl-upholstery-fabric/

My Mom used something similar to this in her 1973 kitchen remodel

All our research on countertops is in our Kitchen Help / Countertops subcategory: https://retrorenovation.com/category/kitchen/countertops/ The feature box in the middle, right at the top, will get you to a variety of stories!

And use that search box! It works really well!

I’ve only got about 20″ of countertop- but it’s that yellow, banded in chrome edging. Knowing I can still find it may throw (yet another) “what if…???” into our impending kitchen remodel.

I saw this on the Wilsonart website and ordered a sample. It is really gorgeous, dove grey undertones. I think it would look super with a steel banded counter top!
