My sectional custom made by Barclay Furniture, upholstered in Knoll Rivington Palm, was delivered yesterday. I’m still in sneak peek mode on my Mahalo Lounge, so here’s a sneak. I’m pretty over the moon. The sectional is delicious and sized perfectly to my room. The fabric is gorgeous — this photo, un-retouched, does not do it justice. More to come as the room approaches the finish line!
P.S., now I need to research plastic slipcovers. I am serious. The first one who spills on this baby I Can’t Even Imagine.
UPDATE to my PS: Okay, no plastic slipcovers. I read the comments. I calmed down. Last night, though, weebit’s snack touched the sectional cushion where she was drinking a cocktail and doing some noshing while watching TV with us. All are forewarned they will risk some mom-wrath if they don’t be careful. But yes: This space is for FUN, lest I forget. Yes: Weebit is all graduated from college now and working in the big city. I want her to come home to visit as often as possible, messy and all!

Absolutely gorgeous Pam – I take it KNOLL doesn’t have a ‘sunbrella’ option in the line??? Oh well, the plastic slipcovers will just add to the sixties authenticity !! ps. if your vac doesn’t have a power upholstery brush – invest in one – they take the anxiety out of spot cleaning..let those lounge lizard guests of yours tipple away!!

WOW that is something else – awesome!!

Yay! You got it back! Ya, that’s why if I get more vintage upholstered furniture again that need to be redone, I’ll use indoor-outdoor upholstery. No plastic covers! I have icky memories of that stuff from when I was a kiddo. ????
Enjoy your glorious sectional, and hope you find a comfy answer for protecting it.

This is a great idea!

It’s great for dining chairs, whatever room they are used, that are upholstered. It’s also great for any seating where one can find little humans as well as nonhumans. ????

I’m with you Pam regarding those plastic covers. I would throw myself in front of a train if someone spilled something on my brand new custom upholstered furniture. My living room is all vintage, the sofa and one chair are covered in silk and I do not welcome certain people to sit in that room as they have a reputation for not being neat. I purposely did not put a television in that room because I don’t want anyone getting that comfy. It may sound shallow but I worked hard for my money and can’t afford to replace things.

Wow! That sofa is fabulous! My mom had the plastic slipcovers for her new sofa back in the day. (I remember my legs sticking to them.) I do what Elizabeth Mary suggested…cover my good furniture with quilts or bedspreads until company comes. Of course, that only helps for us and our dog. It wouldn’t do anything for spills perpetrated by guests. Hmmm…. You might need those plastic slipcovers after all. ????

I love that fabric!
I recently cleaned straight chocolate syrup (don’t ask) off my white couch with a little oxyclean. Perhaps you can skip the plastic.

People are going to get drunk and dizzy in that room… either from the exotic cocktails or from the colourful decoration -or from a combination of the two-. All the peroxyde in the world wouldn’t fix that. It’s either plastic or people will start getting thrown in front of a train 😉

The set is gorgeous. You can get plastic slip overs on eBay.

Hi Pam,
Looks wonderful, so I am eager for more photos. In the meantime — I understand totally about the plastic covers. But, last year I got a new sofa, and had just adopted a new cat. She is GREAT, but has a couple of problems: she vomits too often, and since she loves to sit on back of sofa looking out the window, the sofa is vulnerable. And, she is first cat I have had who scratches the cushions and not just the corners.
So, I had to cover this new sofa fast and matching loveseat. I ended up with quilted cotton bedspreads. Can’t see the sofa, but it is comfortable to sit on, they can be ripped off and hidden away for company (or, as I found, can just stay there unless special occasion/company), they are thick enough to protect the sofa from the claws and vomit. And, probably less costly than custom made plastic cover. So, just another idea. But, do protect that gorgeous sofa.

Mary Elizabeth concurs with Elizabeth Mary, of course! I am adding a link at the end to a type of cover that will keep Astro and visiting kids from wrecking the upholstery without the discomfort and mold-producing plastic covers. You could get a few of these and place them on the sectional.
Scotchguard is also a good idea. I also found that dabbing up spills (people will be drinking mai-tais on it, right?) right away and treating with upholstery cleaner works. Also, we got a light-colored, textured dining room chair seat completely cleaned of a whole cup of homemade hot chocolate spilled by a 3-year-old by using the Bissell Little Green Machine, worth the investment in my book. (Yeah, I know. Why didn’t I park him and the hot chocolate in the kitchen? But he and his brother had just come in from sledding and were so rosy cheeked and cute. . . .)
