Magic Chef Retro Edition small refrigerator — in mint, red, and white

Pam Kueber - Updated: October 14, 2021

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

magic chef 4.4 cu. ft. mini refrigeratorBrand new to the market: A small refrigerator with retro styling, the Magic Chef Retro Edition Refrigerator. Thanks to Colleen for this tip, and the photo above. She writes: Cutie patootie refrigerator I saw in Home Depot this weekend.” Cutie patootie indeed!

Available in Mint … Red … and … White …

Note, at $300 to $349, this retro style refrigerator looks to cost about double a plain version. But… cutie patootie! Thanks so much, Colleen, for this tip!

2021 update: There are quite a few refrigerators like this on the market today. For an update on where to find family-sized retro refrigerators, check out my story here.

We just saw this in Home Depot (In Texas) over the weekend, priced for $200.00

Looked super cute. More plastic than metal though.

It’s smaller than the Magic Chef, but I just got this one on sale for $43 (!!!) online. So far, it’s running great and we love it. We put it in the basement by the pool table and out of the way of basement shuffleboard. 🙂 The color was described as copper but, to me, it’s pink — and of COURSE I’m happy with that. 🙂 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Igloo-1-6-Cu-Ft-Retro-Bar-Fridge-With-Side-Bottle-Opener-Multiple-Colors/55683710

I have a tiny kitchen in a 1950’s home, don’t know anything about the magic chef brand, would love to order the red, but am looking for something to slide in under counter once the dishwasher is taken out. If anyone knows of retro or good compact under the counter that would be wonderful.

i feel like i need these for our vintage 1977 RV – it would be much better then the add in fridge and micro on 90’s basic white

We recently had the Daewoo version at an airbnb we stayed in outside of Austin. It was great and also had a matching microwave.
Just a FYI: Although the color is called “mint” is it an aqua blue and not green.

Great tip, I just found the coordinating Microwaves online. I wish they’d gone with a analog clock, but otherwise its easily the most tasteful of the breed to date, not too crazy with kitsch ornamentation nor spoiled by weird design details. I’m tempted to get one of these to keep in reserve in case my beloved Radarange ever gives up the ghost.

And of course, I had to go snooping on the Daewoo home site to see what we aren’t getting and spied a handsome pair of microwaves that would play great in a 1970s style kitchen, off white with orange or off white with lime green (KOR-660B).

I sure hope even more of these spiffy Daewoo products start making their way to the US!
