No, I have not dropped off the face of the earth. I have just been working like a madwoman on my upcoming talk, “Create a World of Tiki in your Home”, April 13 at Arizona Tiki Oasis. I had thought this would be *relatively* easy, because I’ve given a version of the talk before. But then, diving in, I decided to change out all the photos… I’ve talked to a bunch of people who’ve built home tiki bars… and I’ve found even more resources.
Meanwhile, I still need to tidy up my own Mahalo Lounge… I need to put the darned camera on a tripod so’s I can get decent images what with all that dark lighting… and then, I’ll also have some photos of my own space to show. So… new stories might be a little slow coming here on the blog for a while, while I finish all this up. Afterward, though, golly: I’ll have a whole bunch of new info and inspiration on creating your own home tiki space to share on Retro Renovation. Several folks I’ve spoken too already have said they’d be happy to share their stories and photos here on the blog. I’ve been meeting such wonderful people — just like here on the blog, that’s what makes it all so gratifying and happy-fying!

Pam,
Really bumming that your session over laps the
Mid century home tour. Hope to see you around the Valley Ho..

Beautiful! Got me in the mood for a Mai Tai! Who doesn’t love “bringing the outdoors in?” Looks like you took a photo of a photo out of Better Homes & Gardens 1968. The peacock chairs are the MOST! I remember Howard Johnson restaurant had them in the middle of the aisle for two tops & I was sad when I was with a party of three or more, because I couldn’t sit at one. ?

While I continue work on my presentation, let me divert everyone to this story from 2016 on rare and wonderful peacock chairs: https://retrorenovation.com/2016/08/10/peacock-chairs-four-styles-fan-balloon-cobra-double/

I actually love the warm blurry glow of this picture, it makes it feel like it could have been taken 30-40 years ago. It also has me nostalgic for the peacock chair my mother used to keep in the dining room when I was a kid. I don’t know what ever happened to it, but I used to love sitting in it. It felt so regal.

The peacock chair is probably the #1 hit of the room!

I’ve always thought they look like the seat of honor in any room, and especially in your beautiful Mahalo Lounge. Just fabulous!
