Can’t decide whether you want a bathroom vanity made of wood vs. one made of laminate? Or, do you have a tired wood vanity that could use an inexpensive yet cheerful refresh? This example from 1964 shows how you can have the best of both worlds — and a matching countertop, too. Reader Thom captured these photos — they are from the house that he grew up in, a 1964 ranch in Allegheny County, Virginia, that his parents had built for them. Drats — now if we could only get laminate like that on the vanity. We can get mosaic floor tile that seems darn close to Thom’s parents’ bathroom – Nemo Appiana. Thom, thank you so much for sharing. Very cool floor. We had that same floor in our master bath in our former home in suburban Cleveland. In that bathroom, the cabinets were white, with original “v” hardware and solid white laminate tops. We painted the walls a very pale pink. In the open shelves, we stacked bath towels in a variety of pastel colors, using the same pastel colors in the floor tile.

I adore the floor. Will keep that in mind–we’re about to close on a midcentury house with two original bathrooms, one I love (yellow), one I really don’t (gray). I might replace the floor in the gray bath depending on the shape it’s in.

Pam, thanks for the nemo tile link, I missed that post and the color combos it comes in are great! I like the pink blue green white for our bathroom. Or the aqua blues. Hmmm.
