Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

After nearly 15 years of blogging about the retro, I have stepped back from posting regularly.

To make time for new endeavors, I can no longer respond to emails asking for personalized assistance. Please note: I do not sell anything. If you are looking for a particular item, the blog is full of many resources, give the Search box a whirl!

I stumbled upon a house in New England that has an original Youngstown Kitchen. White wooden cabinets with original chrome handles, a circular shelf on both sides of the sink cabinets and a chrome label on the cabinet under the sink “Youngstown Kitchens”
I have no interest in making any money on this find, but would like to save the kitchen if someone is interested in buying it from the current owners or the new owners (the house is on the market). I am concerned that the new owners would toss it all in the dumpster not knowing the historic value of this kitchen set.
Contact me if you have an interest in finding out more and I will give you the realtor’s name who is listing it. I’m from Youngstown Ohio and have some pride in the great city from which it came!

Leonore, we do not sell anything on this site. If you post a link to the page you were looking at, perhaps I can give you advice on where to find such a cabinet.

I do not sell anything here. Go to the category Bathroom Help / Toilets to see our research on where to find toilets in vintage colors.

I have vintage Geneva metal cabinets in white. I’m looking for the plastic inserts the handles screw into.

They don’t exist as replacement parts as far as I know… I suggest harvesting them from other cabinets….

I am dismantling our 1949 dream kitchen. I have people on craigslist interested in the cabinets but I can’t find any comps for wood cabinets with all their curly cues, metal insets, pull out cutting boards….etc. I can only find metal cabinets sold. Anyone know how to price them??

This is not something we have researched.

Hi Nate, we’ve closed the forum because it wasn’t being used much anymore. Try selling on your local Craigslist or Ebay. Good luck!

I have a customer that is looking for a 32 X 80, RHS jalousie door. Is this something that you can supply. I am the installation contractor. Where can I find one?

Markus, We do not sell anything here. Here is a story we did about jalousie windows. We link to a number of companies that still make them today, go through the links – maybe one or more make doors still, too. Good luck.

Help, I’m having to gut my kitchen due to asbestos flooring, so we are replacing everything. But my question is about saving my original 1962 cabinet pulls, the copper chevron style. They are very dirty, and I would prefer to have them chrome. Ideas of either cleaning or cost of chrome overlay. Thanks.

Rechroming can be very expensive, I think. But the only way to find out is to find someone to do it. I’m not sure where to point you for that.
