Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

After nearly 15 years of blogging about the retro, I have stepped back from posting regularly.

To make time for new endeavors, I can no longer respond to emails asking for personalized assistance. Please note: I do not sell anything. If you are looking for a particular item, the blog is full of many resources, give the Search box a whirl!

If you are writing about advertising, please contact me here.

I don’t sell anything here. Go to the story with the info – look for the hotlink to the company there.

Lou, this is a blog about where to find help — I don’t do work like this myself. We have story on two places that do this, depending on the materials. Use the search box to find the story and contact them from there.

We’re upgrading our 1957 mid-century modest house. We have varnished wooden cabinets in the kitchen with veneer that is chipping near the round door pulls on about 3 of the cabinet doors. Is there any way to repair the chipped bits without revarnishing or repainting the entire cabinet door? If we do one, we do ’em all because of difficulty in matching them.

I am not an expert on this, Elisabeth. Consult with a professional and be aware to Renovate Safe https://retrorenovation.com/renovate-safe/

We just had our hardwood floors redone. We just bought the house in December and have not moved in as of now. The problem I have is this, The contractor did a wonderful job on the floors, however the trim he replaced does not match and the quarter round he put on the staircase is so bad, even my husband doesn’t like it, which totally surprised me. the last da he was on the job he seemed very disconnected and distracted. Do I voice my issues or let it go and get someone else to repair what he messed up? By the way, we have almost $5,000.00 in the floors and badly done trim and quarter round.

I have the shower door handle in your 1964 bathroom. Need parts, the latch itself. Where can I find it?

I don’t know the answer to this one, Charlie.

We are going to remodel our kitchen which currently has old Geneva metal cabinets in it. I have no idea where to sell these things or if anyone even wants one. Pinterest brought me to this site so I though I would see here. Let me know.

btw. they are white and in very good shape. The handles have flowers on them.

    Thank you for any help

Hi Andrew, not sure which post you are referring to. All of our countertop research is in the subcategory Kitchen Help / Countertops here — https://retrorenovation.com/category/kitchen/countertops/

Your blog redirects to incorrect pages?

Yes, this happens — the blog is now nine years old and some of the links written about in the past may have changed, or products may no longer be available. If I spot them I correct them.
